Is Kia Motors Coming To India? Good News For Indian Customers
South Korean car manufacturer Kia Motors, a well known international brand, is speculating to enter the Indian automobile market. It will come to a decision in the coming two months. Kia is the second largest car maker in South Korea after Hyundai. Collectively, both firms hold the fifth position in global sales.
Kia Motors is expected to soon release an official statement on this matter. Before making this move, Kia has done their homework. After extensive research and development in India, the first model of Kia may come in 2019. According to sources, Kia is currently planning three locations - Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Initially, the production capacity will be 3,00,000 cars a year.
Kia is yet to reveal which model they are going to launch in India. But it's believed that they begin with Picanto, Rio and the Rio Sedan. The Picanto is an entry level hatch offered by Kia, which is internationally known. The car is equipped with a 1.2-litre or a 1.0-litre engine, which produces 85bhp and 68bhp respectively.
Rio is also a hatch, but with higher capacity engines. Its available in two options, 1.4-litre or a 1.2-litre, both producing 104bhp and 82bhp respectively. The sedan version of the Rio will also carry the same specs, but only question is if the Indian models get the same version.
