Karnataka High Court Repeals Discriminatory Road Tax Law
oi-Dennis
By Dennis
The Karnataka has repealed the law that forced owners of vehicles registered outside Karnataka to pay lifetime tax in the State if the vehicle stayed in Karnataka beyond 30 days.
The ruling basically kicked out the 2014 amendment to the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation act which brought the 30 day limit into play after the Facebook group 'Drive Without Borders' filed a case in the High Court asking for the removal of the amendment to the law.
Cars registered in other States and Union Territories can now ply for a year on the roads of Karnataka before the owners have to change the registration and pay a lifetime road tax.
Road Tax levels in Karnataka are currently around two and half times more than the national average.
