Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler Petrol Launch Date Revealed; Big Price Drop On The Cards
Petrol powered Jeeps to come to India with a rather large drop in the price tags.
American SUV maker Jeep is all set to launch the petrol powered Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models for the India market next month.
Currently, the only petrol-powered SUV from Jeep in India is the Hemi V8 Grand Cherokee SRT which is priced at Rs. 1.03 crore ex-showroom (Delhi). The regular Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler are presently available exclusively with diesel engines.
Both the the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee will use the same 3.5-litre V6 engine. However, the engine will not be in the same state of tune in both SUVs. In the Wrangler, the V6 engine produces 281bhp and 353Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
In the larger Grand Cherokee, Jeep has bumped up the power level of the 3.5-litre V6 by almost 100bhp to 390bhp. The Grand Cherokee makes use of an 8-speed automatic gearbox to the send the power to all four wheels.
The new petrol powered variants of the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler are set to come some rather massive cuts in the pricing as well.
According to Autocar India, the Grand Cherokee petrol is expected to be around Rs. 15 lakh cheaper than the diesel variant.
The petrol Wrangler on the other hand will see the a price drop of around Rs. 18-20 lakh.
