Tata Nexon Crash Test (Global NCAP) — Five Stars And Officially Becomes The Safest Car In India!

The Tata Nexon has scored a five-star Global NCAP crash test rating, making it the first 'made-in-India; sold-in-India' vehicle to do so. Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) had previously done a crash or safety test of the Nexon, back in August 2018. However, the compact-SUV from Tata Motors scored only a four-star-rating (still an impressive score) at that time.

The latest Global NCAP video shows the updated model of the Tata Nexon. It succeeded in getting the top score, thanks to the newly-added seatbelt reminder feature for the driver and front passenger. This is a standard fitment across all variants.

To get into more detail, the Tata Nexon passed the side-impact test coming under UN95 safety requirements. Furthermore, the Nexon scored a total of 16.06 points out of 17, in adult occupant protection. Previously, it had had only 13.56 points.

The latest Global NCAP safety results of the Tata Nexon also prove how well built the modern Tata products are. The brand has introduced their flagship Harrier and we expect it to feature the same, or even better levels of safety. David Ward, Secretary General, Global NCAP was extremely impressed with the Tata Nexon's performance. "This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India's first five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The Nexon was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata has shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can 'Make in India'," he said.

In the crash tests conducted in August, the Tata Nexon had "Marginal" protection to the front passengers' thighs. Now, it has been rated as "Good". In addition to this, the Tata Nexon's structural integrity has been declared as "Stable" in the 64km/h offset deformable barrier impact test. At three stars, child occupant protection rating has remained the same as before.

The Tata Nexon is powered by either a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine or a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel. The turbocharged petrol engine makes 108bhp and 170Nm of torque, while the diesel unit pushes out 108bhp and 260Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a six-speed manual or its respective AMT.

Thoughts On The Tata Nexon's Five-Star Global NCAP Crash Test Rating

The Tata Nexon has once again proved its worth and also set a new benchmark for its competitors, as well as the Indian automotive market in general. With a starting price of just over Rs 6 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi), the Tata Nexon has become an even more compelling choice in its segment. The latest Global NCAP crash test results of the Nexon have raised the expectations for the new Tata Harrier too!
