Yamaha FZ25 Vs TVS Ronin - Specs Comparison
When Yamaha first launched the Yamaha FZ series in India, it completely changed the way how naked motorcycles in India are designed. Thanks to its international design, the Yamaha FZ series quickly became a favourite among Indian youngsters. Whereas, TVS seems to have taken an all-new route with the launch of the Ronin motorcycle in India.
Design
The Yamaha FZ25 echoes the design language of Yamaha's FZ lineup of motorcycles with its muscular fuel tank and slightly raised and neat-looking tail section.
Finally, the newly launched TVS Ronin features very unique styling. The motorcycle features styling inspiration from retro motorcycles, power cruisers, scramblers and more. It feels like the design team had been divided and later regrouped. However, everything gels well.
Features
All three motorcycles are well equipped and features all the necessary modern tech. Starting with the Yamaha FZ25, the motorcycle comes with features such as LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, LED DRLs, front and rear disc brakes, a fully digital instrument cluster and a few more.
Though the Yamaha FZ25 sports an all-digital instrument display, it misses out on a few features such as a gear position indicator, distance-to-empty fuel gauge, clock, and a service reminder.
On the other hand, being a newer motorcycle, the TVS Ronin comes slightly better equipped with additional features such as trip stats, gear shift indicator, adjustable levers, voice assistant, ride mode indicator, TVS' SmartXonnect connected vehicle system with features such as turn-by-turn navigation, calls and sms alerts.
Powertrain
The Yamaha FZ25 is powered by a 250cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that pumps out 20.51bhp of peak power and 20.1Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the newly launched TVS Ronin puts out 20.12bhp of peak power and 19.93Nm of peak torque from its smaller 225.9cc engine.
On paper, it may seem like the TVS Ronin and Yamaha FZ25 are closely matched, but weighing in at 160kg, the Yamaha FZ25 weighs almost 7kg less than the TVS Ronin. So, in practical situations, the Yamaha may have an upper hand in terms of performance.
Apart from that, both the bikes offer an urban-friendly 5-speed gearbox rather than a 6-speed unit. However, TVS offers a slipper clutch with the TVS Ronin.
Suspension & Brakes
The Yamaha FZ25 pales in this comparison despite sporting a dual-channel ABS set-up, mono rear suspension, fat 41mm front forks, and 282mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes.
Being a newer motorcycle, TVS has clearly studied its main competition and sports a more advanced dual-channel ABS unit with switchable modes- Rain and Urban. Other than this, the TVS Ronin comes with more sophisticated USD front forks. Braking duties are carried out by a larger 300mm disc brake at the front and 240mm disc brake at the rear.
Price
The Yamaha FZ25 is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), whereas the TVS Ronin is priced from Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant with single-tone colour paint scheme and single-channel ABS. However, the dual-channel ABS variant is priced from Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About Yamaha FZ25 & TVS Ronin
The TVS Ronin seems to be an easy-riding motorcycle with plenty of features and a reasonably powerful engine that is capable of occasional long rides. This makes the TVS Ronin align perfectly with the firing range of the Yamaha FZ25, but the TVS Ronin seems to have an upper hand with its additional tech. However, at Rs 1.45 lakh, the Yamaha clearly seems to have a price advantage.
