Ultraviolette F77 Updated With Improved Performance & Range: India Launch In A Few Weeks
The Ultraviolette F77 will arrive later this year with performance and range upgrades according to a new report by carandbike. The delays induced by the pandemic have been used to upgrade the battery and the battery format. It now promises more range and performance with the launch just a few weeks away.
Ultraviolette Automotive is one of the most promising electric vehicle brands in India. In 2019, the brand revealed the F77 electric motorcycle. It was and still is one of the best-looking electric vehicles in the country. The Ultraviolette F77 also features lots of technology that was ahead of its time.
Ultraviolette Automotive had been developing the F77 for a few years before its 2019 reveal and the electric motorcycle was expected to be launched in 2020. However, things didn't really go to plan. The pandemic arrived in 2020 and since then, things just weren't the same. The brand continued developing the motorcycle through the COVID-19-induced lockdowns and now claims that the motorcycle is way better than it was in 2019.
Narayan Subramaniam, co-founder of Ultraviolette was quoted as saying, We were functional and that one year went in just getting the packs and cell manufacturer agnostic. Another thing that happened was switching from 18,650 to 21,700 format. Our first four years of battery tech was completely designed for 18,650 but saw the industry evolving. What we initially planned was the second generation of the F77 would go into 21,700 but this Covid window that we got, we fast-tracked that development."
As a result, the range and performance have increased. While exact numbers are not available at the moment, a 20 percent increase is expected. Back in 2019, the Ultraviolette F77 promised a range of between 130 - 150 kilometres on a single charge. Now though, the brand is looking at the coveted 200 kilometre mark.
The Ultraviolette F77 is powered by a BLDC motor that pushes out around 33bhp and 90Nm. With this output, the F77 has a claimed top speed of just under 150km/h. Acceleration from 0-60km/h takes just 2.8 seconds while 0-100km/h is done away with, in just 7.5 seconds. This is brilliant performance indeed and these figures are expected to improve with the new battery.
In terms of design, we do not expect much change. The motorcycle was good-looking, to begin with in the first place. Inspired by jet fighters, the Ultraviolette F77 boasts a striking design that is sure to grab your attention.
At the time of the motorcycle's launch later this year, the production will be limited to under 15,000 vehicles. However, it will be increased based on demand as Ultraviolette's production facility has a capacity of 1,00,000 units per annum.
As announced in 2019, Bangalore will be the pilot city and the motorcycle will slowly be sold across other major cities in the country. Ultraviolette eventually intends to launch the motorcycle in other markets across the world too.
Thoughts On Ultraviolette F77 Being Launched In A Few Weeks
The Ultraviolette F77 is one of the most awaited electric motorcycles in the country. It already has an enthusiast following and all of them are watching the brand's developments closely. The F77 is very well capable of pushing petrol-powered motorcycle owners into an EV transition as it can easily challenge the performance of motorcycles up to 400cc. However, Ultraviolette has to launch the F77 this year at any cost before interest in the motorcycle slowly starts to wear off.
