Ultraviolette F77 Production Trials Commence: Performance Electric Motorcycle To Be Launched This Year
The Ultraviolette F77 has gone into trial production and this is brilliant news for those who have eagerly been waiting for the motorcycle's launch. The Bangalore-based electric vehicle manufacturer has been developing the motorcycle for well over five years now and the fact that it has now gone into trial production only signals that it is now closer to being launched than ever before.
From the very beginning, the F77 was intended to be an electric motorcycle for enthusiasts. It has been under development for over five years. In 2019, the F77 motorcycle was first revealed with lots of high-tech features. The motorcycle was expected to be launched by 2020. However, the pandemic had some other plans for the brand.
Ultraviolette continued the development of the F77 even amidst the COVID-19-induced lockdowns and used the extra time to add more range and upgrade the technologies being used in the motorcycle.
Narayan Subramaniam, co-founder of Ultraviolette was quoted as saying, "We were functional and that one year went in just getting the packs and cell manufacturer agnostic. Another thing that happened was switching from 18,650 to 21,700 format. Our first four years of battery tech was completely designed for 18,650 but saw the industry evolving. What we initially planned was the second generation of the F77 would go into 21,700 but this Covid window that we got, we fast-tracked that development."
As a result of the new development, the range of the motorcycle is now expected to be around 200 kilometres, which is significantly higher than the 130-150 kilometres promised back in 2019. In terms of the styling though, nothing much has changed, which is a good thing. The aviation-inspired design has always been brilliant.
A BLDC motor that pushes out 33bhp and 90Nm powers the Ultraviolette F77. This allows the motorcycle to have a top speed of just under 150km/h. Acceleration from 0-60km/h takes just under 2.8 seconds, while hitting the 100km/h mark takes around 7.5 seconds.
Now, the motorcycle has hit trial production. At the trial production event were key suppliers, vendors, and partners that supply components that help in the production of the electric motorcycle. This includes well-known brands like Bosch, Gabriel, Minda, Brembo, etc.
This comes shortly after the brand held a test ride event in August. On the 75th Independence day, several pilots and also members of the Indian Armed Forces were invited to test ride the production version of the F77 on the runway at Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited, near Hosur.
Thoughts On Ultraviolette F77 Production Trials Commencing Ahead Of Its Launch
The Ultraviolette F77 is one of those electric motorcycles that even hardcore petrolheads might just love. Even though we haven't ridden the motorcycle, the design of the motorcycle and the riding triangle looks almost perfect. In addition, the claimed performance specifications sound very attractive indeed. The motorcycle will be launched later this year and we're quite looking forward to riding it.
