Starting with the design, it is worth mentioning that 'design' is a very subjective matter. However, credit must be given to the designers at Triumph for making such a beautiful machine.

The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 looks a bit sharper and a bit younger with its sharp nose, sleeker-looking dual headlamps and beautifully sculpted single-piece seat.

Though Kawasaki Versys 650 is able to attract eyeballs wherever it goes, it doesn't look as sharp or proportioned as the Triumph Tiger Sport 660.

Engine & Gearbox

Powering the Kawasaki Versys 650 is a 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, DOHC engine with 8-valves. This engine produces 65.71bhp of peak power at 8,500rpm and 61Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. Like many other motorcycles, this engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission.

On the other hand, the newly launched Triumph Tiger Sport 660 sports a 660cc, liquid-cooled, 12 valve, DOHC, inline 3-cylinder engine. This engine produces a much healthier 80bhp of peak power at 10,250rpm and 64Nm of peak torque at 6,250rpm. Moreover, like the Kawasaki, the engine is a 6-speed unit.

From the engine specifications, it is worth mentioning that the engine in the Triumph not only produces substantially more power at relatively higher rpm, but it also produces more torque at lower rpm - Giving this engine a unique character that is well-suited for open roads and mild off-road stretches.

Features

Being the newer vehicle here, it is the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 that comes better equipped with features such as Ride modes (Road and Rain), switchable traction control, and a partial TFT instrument console.

Other features include dual-channel ABS, adjustable windscreen, dual taillights, 17.2-litre fuel tank, 41mm Show USD forks, and a mono-shock with preload adjustment.

The Triumph Tiger Sport also features 17-inch cast aluminium wheels shod with 120/70 ZR17 tyres at the front and 180/55 ZR17 tyres at the rear. Whereas braking duties are handled by dual 310mm disc brakes with Nissin two-piston sliding callipers at the front end and a single 255mm disc with Nissin single-piston sliding calliper at the rear end.

On the other hand, the Kawasaki Versys 650 comes with essential features such as dual-channel ABS, an adjustable windscreen, a larger 21-litre fuel tank, 41mm adjustable USD front forks with separated functions, and an off-set mono-shock.

Other than this, the Kawasaki Versys 650 sports dual 300mm semi-floating petal discs at the front with Nissin dual-piston calipers and at the rear, the Kawasaki sports a single 255mm petal disc brake with single-piston Nissin caliper.

Price

In terms of pricing, the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is priced slightly premium to the Kawasaki Versys 650 and it has been priced at Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Kawasaki on the other hand has always priced its products aggressively in India and the Versys is not any different with a starting price of just Rs 7.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Thoughts About Triumph Tiger Sport 660 & Kawasaki Versys 650

Though Triumph Tiger Sport 660 offers a lot more power and better equipment, it is substantially more expensive than the Kawasaki Versys 650. However, if you are able to overlook the money factor, the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is overall a better touring motorcycle that is sure to put a bigger smile on your face.
