Top 10 Two Wheeler Brands In March 2022: EV Manufacturers Take Three Spots
Though Two-wheeler sales have been stagnant for quite a while with YoY sales figures still showing a considerable deficit to last year's sales figures. On the other hand, the electric two-wheeler segment seems to flourish with triple-digit growth figures.
Apart from the pandemic-related difficulties, the rising fuel prices have also helped bottle-neck the two-wheeler sales in the Indian market.
Hero MotoCorp (3,73,528 units)
Hero MotoCorp sold 3,73,528 units of its motorcycles and scooters in March 2022. Though this is a remarkable sales number, the Indian automobile giant witnessed a YoY sales decline of more than 6 per cent as the company managed to sell 3,99,206 units of two-wheelers during March 2021. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp has registered more than 20 per cent MoM growth rate.

Honda (2,81,725 units)
Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India sold 2,81,725 units of two-wheelers in March 2022 and as a result, YoY sales have dipped by more than 11 per cent. In comparison, HMSI had sold 3,16,936 units in March 2021. However, the MoM sales have improved by 14 per cent.
TVS Motors (1,81,328 units)
TVS Motor Company is the third biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in India and YoY sales for this South Indian automaker has improved by 1 per cent as the company managed to sell just 1,81,328 units of scooters and motorcycles in March 2022. In terms of MoM sales for TVS, sales figures have improved by almost 17 per cent, thus registering strong growth.

Bajaj (1,23,413 units)
Bajaj sold 1,23,413 units of its two-wheelers in March 2022. This meant the automaker registered a YoY sales decline of almost 11 per cent. However, MoM sales have improved by more than 14 per cent.
Royal Enfield (50,762 units)
Royal Enfield sold 50,762 units of its motorcycles in March 2022, resulting in a 17 per cent drop in YoY sales figures. However, MoM sales figures for the brand has improved by more than 15 per cent as the company managed to sell 6,752 units more than previous month.
Suzuki (49,371 units)
Suzuki registered 49,371 units in March 2022. Moreover, the Japanese brand has achieved positive sales growth in terms of YoY and MoM sales figures. The YoY sales increased by more than 1 per cent, whereas the MoM sales increased by almost 12 per cent.
Yamaha (41,812 units)
The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, Yamaha has registered 41,812 unit sales in March 2022. Though a decent sales figure, YoY sales have taken an almost 6 per cent hit. However, MoM sales looks positive with almost 15 per cent growth.
Hero Electric (13,023 units)
Hero Electric managed to sell 13,023 units in March 2022. Moreover, the company witnessed a YoY sales increase of 149 per cent and MoM sales increase of almost 77 per cent. These sales figures can be considered an indicator of the growing EV market in India.
Ola Electric (9,127 units)
Despite being a new company in the automobile segment, the Ola electric scooters immediately gained good traction as it managed to sell 9,127 units of its electric scooters in March 2022. In terms of growth rate, MoM sales increased by 134 per cent.
Okinawa (8,284 units)
Okinawa auto tech has a strong foothold in the Indian automotive market with a decent dealer network across the country. Thanks to this dealer network, Okinawa sold 8,284 units of Okinawa electric two-wheelers in March 2022. This has resulted in a YoY sales increase of more than 441 per cent and MoM sales increase of 40 per cent.
Thoughts About Two-Wheeler Sales In March 2022
Analysing the sales trend, the Indian two-wheeler market is yet to recover fully. Apart from that, the electric two-wheeler segment looks pretty strong with a lot of potential and thanks to rising fuel prices, we expect more electric two-wheelers to be sold in the coming months.
