The all-new Suzuki Katana takes its name from the 1982 GS1000S Katana and the iconic Samurai sword and its design is a re-interpretation of that iconic Japanese street bike from the 1980s.

Like its 1980s predecessor, the new Katana is based on an existing GSX series bike - the GSX-S1000. The Katana shares its mechanical bits with the litre-class Gixxer.

The new Suzuki Katana is powered by a 999cc fuel-injected, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline four engine that produces 150.1bhp at 11,000rpm and 106Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm, all of which is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox with Suzuki's Clutch Assist system.

The new Suzuki Katana features a twin-spar aluminium frame setup with fully adjustable 43mm upside down Kayaba front forks along with a monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound damping also provided by Kayaba. The front end allows for 120mm of travel while the rear shock allows for 130mm of travel for a sporty yet plush ride.

Braking duties on the new Suzuki Katana are provided by dual 310mm floating discs at the front that are clamped by 4-piston radial monoblock callipers. The rear wheel is stopped by a 240mm disc brake with single piston callipers. The brakes on the Katana are aided by dual-channel ABS.

The new Suzuki Katana rides on 17-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels from Enkei. These cast aluminium alloy wheels are shod with 120/70-ZR17(front) and 190/50-ZR17 (rear) tyres.

The Suzuki Katana is 2,130mm long, 820mm wide and 1,100mm tall. The wheelbase of the Katana is 1,460mm long. The retro-themed bike offers 140mm of ground clearance and its rider's seat sits 825mm above the ground. The Katana weighs 217 kilogrammes.

The Suzuki Katana like the sword its named after features a sharp design. The front end features a vertically stacked rectangular LED headlight unit while the front position lights accentuate the sharp looks of the bike's face.

The sharply styled LED lights are also seen at the rear which features a unique lighting pattern. The seat is a black and grey two-tone unit and the tail section looks clean thanks to the satellite rear fender which hugs the rear tyre and is supported by the swingarm. This rear fender plays host to the license plate holder and the rear turn signals. The short, stubby, upswept muffler delivers the noise from the 999cc inline four.

The Suzuki Katana's handlebars feature rubber mounts that reduce the amount of vibrations transmitter to the rider hands. The Katana features a full LCD instrument cluster with amber backlighting and comes packed with tech including Suzuki Drive Mode Selector and Suzuki Traction Control System.
