Royal Enfield May 2022 Sales Report - YoY Sales Grow By 133%
Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has released its sales numbers for the month of May 2022. Royal Enfield sold a total of 63,643 motorcycles in the month of May 2022, a 113.18% increase in sales.

Year-over-Year sales increased by 133.18% when compared to May 2021 when the motorcycle maker sold 20,073 units. Month-over-Month sales increased by 2.39 per cent (1,488 units) compared to April 2022 when Royal Enfield sold 62,155 units.
Out of the 63,643 units sold by Royal Enfield in May 2022, 53,525 motorcycles were sold in the domestic market. Domestic sales for Royal Enfield grew by 166.65 per cent (33,452 units) compared to May 2021 when the Chennai-based motorcycle maker sold 20,073 bikes.
However, Month-over-Month domestic sales dipped slightly by just 0.61 per cent (327 units) compared to April's 53,852 units.
Royal Enfield exported a total of 10,118 motorcycles in May 2022. Year-over-Year sales metrics reveal that Royal Enfield's exports grew by 40.12 per cent (2,897 units) compared to May 2021, when the bikemaker exported 7,221 motorcycles. Month-over-Month metrics also showed an increase of 21.86 per cent (1,815 units) compared to April 2022 when Royal Enfield exported 8,303 motorcycles.
Out of the 63,643 units sent out by Royal Enfield in May 2022 to dealerships in India and abroad, nearly 85 per cent of the motorcycles sold were powered by the single-cylinder 349cc single-cylinder engine.
This engine powers bikes like the Classic, Bullet, Meteor, and Electra which accounted for 53,835 units sold in May 22. This was a Year-over-Year growth of 136.80 (31,101 units) compared to 22,734 units sold in May 2021. Month-over-Month sales of these under 350cc Royal Enfield bikes grew by 4.4 per cent (2,271 units)
Royal Enfield's bikes powered by engines larger than 350cc including the Himalayan, Scram and the 650 twins (Interceptor and Continental GT 650) accounted for 9,808 units sold in May 2022. This was an increase of 115.09 per cent (5,248 units) over May 2021's sales numbers of 5,248 units.
However, Month-over-Month sales of these bigger Royal Enfield bikes dropped by 7.39 per cent (783 units) compared to April 2022, when Royal Enfield sold 10,591 units.
Royal Enfield is expected to launch a new roadster bike later this month which will be powered by the 349cc engine in the Meteor. The engine in the new bike, which is expected to bear the Hunter 350 badge, is unchanged mechanically and will continue to churn out 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. The engine in the new Hunter 350 will be paired with the same 5-speed unit found on the Meteor 350. Other mechanical bits like the frame, suspension and brakes are also expected to be carried over from the Meteor 350.

Royal Enfield continues its recovery from the pandemic and the chip shortage issues that made last year a rather bitter pill to swallow for every automaker in India. With the new 349cc roadster on the way, we expect Royal Enfield to continue on its upward trajectory as the populace continues to ride its way back onto the roads to work.
