New Ola Electric Scooter Incoming: Will Be Launched Around Diwali & Priced At Around Rs 80,000
Ola Electric might launch a new scooter on the occasion of Diwali, in India. Reports claim it is a cheaper version of the Ola S1 and prices could be as low as Rs 80,000. Not many details regarding the scooter are available at the moment. This comes shortly after Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal tweeted about the new 'Big' plan for the launch event.
Ola Electric is the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country and the brand is now selling more scooters than it ever did before. Though Ola's scooters initially did face several setbacks, the brand has risen above all the problems and sales are now skyrocketing.
The brand recently announced that sales increased manifold during the Navratri period. Ola Electric claimed to have sold one scooter every minute during Navratri and Dussehra. The brand also claimed that sales grew four times during the festive period. This goes hand-in-hand with the opening of Ola's new experience centres.
Now, in a bid to keep sales going, Ola Electric might launch a new electric scooter. Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO of Ola Electric tweeted, "Planning something BIG for our launch event this month! Will accelerate the #EndICEAge revolution by at least 2 years. Really Excited."
This tweet does signal the arrival of something big, and something more mainstream than the current S1 and S1 Pro. The Ola S1 Pro is a premium electric scooter with bootloads of features. The touchscreen instrument cluster also doubles up as a music player. The scooter even gets built-in speakers, integrated navigation, LED lighting, and a high-performance powertrain.
Prices for the Ola S1 Pro starts at Rs 1,39,999. It is powered by an 8.4kW motor and boasts a top speed of 118km/h. Acceleration from 0-60km/h takes just 4.5 seconds and the scooter has a claimed range of 181 kilometres.
The entry-level variant currently is the Ola S1. Prices for the S1 start at Rs 99,999 and it is powered by the same 8.4kW motor. However, at 141 kilometres, the range is lower as well. It takes 5.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-60km/h. A top speed of 95km/h completes the specifications.
While the S1 and S1 Pro take care of the premium end of the electric scooter market in India, Ola Electric currently lacks a contender in the growing and fast-selling mid-segment electric scooter space. This is where the new scooter comes into the picture.
As aforementioned, there are no details about the new electric scooter. However, we expect Ola Electric to get rid of expensive features like the touchscreen and we also expect the new entry-level scooter to feature a smaller battery pack. This will lead to smaller figures in terms of the the range and top speed. However, it will allow Ola Electric to price the scooter more aggressively.
The scooter is expected to be launched on Diwali, which corresponds to between October 24and 26.
Thoughts On Ola Electric Launching A New Entry-Level Scooter Based On The S1
The Ola S1 Pro is an excellent scooter with lots of performance on tap and so is the S1. However, these two scooters are out of reach for many buyers thanks to their price tags. The real competition is in the lower-mid electric scooter space and that is exactly what Ola is now targeting. It should be an interesting little scooter. All eyes are now on Ola's new 'Big' plan.
