New Yamaha MT-15 India Launch Teased: Version 2.0 Expected To Arrive In April: Here Are All Details
Yamaha Motor India is all set to launch the new MT-15 in April. The new street-naked motorcycle has been teased ahead of its launch by Nikam Automotive, an authorised Yamaha dealership in Maharastra.
The MT-15 Version 1.0 is temporarily discontinued as the brand prepares for the launch of the Version 2.0 motorcycle. The new street-naked bike is expected to be launched in the coming days with deliveries said to start soon after.
2022 MT-15 Pre-Bookings
A few dealerships across the country have begun accepting bookings for the upcoming MT-15 Version 2.0 motorcycle. The pre-booking amount ranges between Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000 depending on the dealership and the colour of the motorcycle.
2022 MT-15 Updates
The new MT-15 will be available in four colours: Grey, White, Glossy Black and Racing Blue. Apart from new colour options, the new MT-15 is expected to receive all the updates that are seen on its faired sibling, the YZF-R15 V4.
Starting with the suspension, the new street-naked motorcycle is expected to be offered with a gold-finished USD front fork as seen on the R15 V4. The new motorcycle is also expected to be a lot safer to ride with the inclusion of a dual-channel ABS and Traction Control. Higher variants of the new MT-15 might receive the up-quick-shifter too like the R15 V4.
Another major update will be the all-new instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. This will enable riders to pair their new MT-15 with the Yamaha Y-connect App. The app provides real-time data and scoring to help extract the most out of the machine.
Finally, speaking about the powertrain, it is expected to carry over the improved engine from the R15 V4. The entry-level suspersport is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with VVA technology paired to a 6-speed gearbox with an up-quick-shifter.
This powertrain produces 18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. These power figures and powertrain combination is expected to remain the same on the new MT-15.
What Remains Same In 2022 MT-15?
The overall look and silhouette of the MT-15 are expected to remain the same as the outgoing model. Yamaha is expected to carry over the single-pod projector LED headlamp with eyebrows-shaped LED DRLs, a single-piece seat, halogen indicators, stubby exhaust and more. However, the front end of the motorcycle will receive an up-market feel due to the gold-finished forks.
Apart from the changes to the front suspension, other hardware on the new MT-15 will remain the same. This includes the pre-load adjustable rear mono shock suspension braking, wheels and tyres.
Braking on the motorcycle is done via a 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The street-naked will continue to come shod with 100/80 section front and 140/70 section rear tubeless tyres wrapped around 17-inch alloys.
Thoughts About The New Yamaha MT-15 India Launch Teased
The new Yamaha MT-15 is expected to be a significant upgrade over the previous model. The street-naked is known to punch above its weight and rival the Bajaj Pulsar NS200, the TVS Apache RTR 180 & 200 4V and the KTM Duke 200. With new updates on the MT-15 Version 2.0, it is expected to perform well against its competition.
