Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has launched the RC 390 in India. The KTM RC 390 is priced at Rs 3.14 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has launched the RC 390 in India. The KTM RC 390 is priced at Rs 3.14 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The KTM RC 390 is the faired bike in KTM's iconic 390 lineup and like every other bike in KTM's India lineup is manufactured at Bajaj's Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
Most of the changes on the KTM RC 390 are skin deep with the bike getting a host of cosmetic changes compared to its predecessor.
The biggest changes can be seen right at the front of the bike where the new 2022 RC 390 has ditched its predecessor's twin pod headlamp for a large single LED unit with the indicators also a part of the fairing at the front.
Speaking about the fairing, it has been tweaked compared to the previous version of the RC 390. The new fairing can now cut through the air a whole lot better. The bike also gets a larger 13.7-litre sculpted fuel tank.
The new RC 390 also sports a new TFT rider's display. The display also gets an ambient light sensor which automatically changes the brightness of the screen depending on the external lighting conditions. The display also sports Bluetooth connectivity.
Not all of the changes are cosmetic on the new 2022 KTM RC 390. The new RC 390 now features lighter trellis frame chassis with a bolt-on subframe. This helps lop off 1.5 kilogrammes compared to the previous iteration of the faired 390 series bike.
The new RC 390 features a 40 per cent larger airbox to to feed air into the 373cc single cylinder fuel injected engine. KTM claims to have tweaked the new RC 390's engine mapping though the peak power and torque figures remain unchanged.
The 2022 KTM RC 390's engine puts out 43bhp at 9,000rpm and 37Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The new RC 390 sends power to the rear wheel via a 6-speed manual transmission that is aided by a slipper clutch.
KTM has changed the ergonomics of the new RC 390. While the rear set foot pegs and the sculpted fuel tank ensure the seating position is still quite committed, the adjustable raised clip-on handlebars which now sit 15mm higher than on the previous version of the bike. Those looking to track their bikes can opt to lower the new clip-on handlebars by 10mm. The seat height of the KTM RC 390 is 835mm.
The suspension setup on the new KTM RC 390 includes a 43mm WP Apex front fork which allows for 120mm of travel. The rear suspension setup consists of a 10-step preload adjustable WP Apex mono shock which allows for 150mm of travel.
To bring the new KTM RC 390 to a halt, KTM has fitted the bike with a 320mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. The brakes are aided by a Bosch-sourced dual-channel ABS system.
Thoughts On The New KTM RC 390
The new KTM RC 390 is quite a bit more expensive than the previous-gen model but the changes it brings are quite significant which should hopefully soften the blow for those opening up their wallets.
