Hero Xtreme 160R Vs Bajaj Pulsar N160 - Which Motorcycle Should You Buy?
Hero MotoCorp recently launched the new Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition 2.0 motorcycle in India and the 160cc motorcycle segment is becoming spicier ahead of the festive season. As the Bajaj Pulsar N160 is also a relatively new motorcycle in the 160cc segment, let us compare both these motorcycles in five parameters - Design, Features & Convenience, Powertrain, Brakes and Price.
Speaking about the 160cc motorcycles in India, the motorcycles in this segment offers a decent balance between performance and fuel efficiency. As such, it is the go-to segment for many young two-wheeler buyers in the country.
Design
Design is a very subjective matter. As such, some people may like the design of the Hero Xtreme 160R motorcycle more than the design of the Bajaj Pulsar N160, and vice-versa. For the sake of this comparison, we think the design of the Bajaj Pulsar N160 looks slightly better with its underbelly exhaust and the use of projector headlamps.
These design traits make the Bajaj Pulsar N160 motorcycle look a bit more sporty, modern and desirable than the Hero Xtreme 160R motorcycle.
Features & Convenience
Unlike other segments, customers generally have a wider variety of requirements and expectations on the 160cc segment motorcycle as the motorcycles in this category offer better performance than the 150cc segment motorcycles without breaking their bank account.
Bajaj Pulsar N160 is comes with long list of features such as an underbelly exhaust, LED projector headlamps, split seats, gear position indicator, clock, fuel economy meter and distance-to-empty read-out. However, the most note-worthy feature of the Bajaj Pulsar N160 motorcycle is its optional dual-channel ABS system, while this may seem like a minor addition, this feature can be life-saving in certain conditions.
The Hero Xtreme 160R motorcycle also comes with a similar set of features such as LED headlamps, a digital instrument console, and more. However, the latest Stealth Edition 2.0 variant of the Xtreme 160R motorcycle comes equipped with even more features such as tow away alert, topple alert, driving score, geo-fencing, Hero Locate, trip analysis, vehicle start alert, speed alert, and live tracking.
Brakes
The Bajaj Pulsar N160 motorcycle comes with a larger 300mm front disc on the dual-channel ABS variant, whereas the single-channel ABS variant comes with a smaller 280mm front disc brake. However, the rear disc on both variants measures an identical 230mm.
The Hero Xtreme 160R motorcycle pales in this comparison as it comes equipped with a smaller 270mm petal disc brake at the front and a 200mm petal disc brake at the rear. Moreover, the motorcycle only gets a single-channel ABS system.
Powertrain
Powertrain plays a significant role in the 160cc segment and it is one of the major reasons why people are spending extra money compared to the 150cc motorcycle segment.
The Hero Xtreme 160R in this comparison is slightly on the back foot as the 163cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine is capable of producing just 15bhp of peak power and 14Nm of peak torque. In comparison, both the 164.82cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine in the Bajaj Pulsar N160 puts out 15.7bhp of peak power and 14.6Nm of peak torque. Also, both the motorcycles sport a city-friendly 5-speed gearbox.
Price
In India, pricing plays a crucial role in the buying decision of many people, irrespective of the product. At Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) the Hero Xtreme 160 R Stealth Edition 2.0 motorcycle. However, the entry-level Hero Xtreme 160R is priced at just Rs 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
In comparison, the dual-channel ABS variant of the Bajaj Pulsar N160 motorcycle costs Rs 1.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About The Bajaj Pulsar N160 & Hero Xtreme 160R
The newly-launched Hero Xtreme 160R Stealth Edition 2.0 offers more features and goodies. However, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 with its dual-channel ABS seems to be a safer choice.
