Ducati Desert X Launch On December 12 – More Off-Road Focused Than The Multistrada V2
Italian superbike manufacturer Ducati has announced that its latest motorcycle, the Desert X will be launched in India on December 12.
Despite sharing the 937cc, L-twin engine, Ducati claims that the upcoming Ducati Desert X motorcycle is even more off-road focussed than the Ducati Multistrada V2.
Speaking about the powertrain, as mentioned, the Ducati Desert X motorcycle comes with the tried-and-tested 937cc, L-Twin engine from the Ducati Multistrada V2 motorcycle. However, Ducati has tuned the engine differently to suit the more off-road characteristics of the Desert X motorcycle.
According to Ducati, the engine in the Desert X motorcycle produces 108.5bhp of peak power at 9,250rpm and 92Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. On top of that, this powertrain comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with short first and second gear for off-road riding and a tall sixth gear for effortless highway cruising.
On top of this, Ducati is even offering six riding modes - Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro, and Rally. Out of this, the first four riding modes are tuned for everyday riding, whereas the last two riding modes are specifically designed and developed for off-road riding.
In terms of the mechanicals, the Ducati Desert X motorcycle features an all-new steel trellis frame, and a fully adjustable front and rear suspension made by Kayaba. Moreover, the front suspension is a 46mm USD fork, whereas the rear features a mono-shock setup with an Aluminium swingarm.
Being an off-road motorcycle, the Ducati Desert X features 21-inch and 18-inch spoked wheels at front and rear, respectively. On top of that, the Ducati Desert X also comes with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres measuring 90/90 at the front and 150/70 at the rear.
In terms of braking, the Ducati Desert X motorcycle features two 320mm disc brakes grabbed by 4-piston calipers at the front and a single 265mm disc brake grabbed by a 2-piston caliper. Furthermore, the Ducati Desert X motorcycle also comes with a ground clearance of 250mm.
That being said, we expect Ducati to price the Desert X motorcycle anywhere between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom. At this price point, the Ducati Desert X motorcycle will be going up against motorcycles such as the Honda African Twin and Triumph Tiger 900 Rally.

The Ducati Desert X is a very attractive-looking motorcycle. However, Ducati claims that the Desert X is a very capable machine. That being said, the motorcycle would require a lot more than just good looks to compete with established ADVs such as the Honda African Twin and Triumph Tiger 900 Rally.
