Back in 2018, there were rumours of Bajaj and Triumph entering into a partnership. By 2019, the rumours had turned into reports and finally, in 2020, the agreement was signed. According to the agreement and the announcement that followed, Bajaj and Triumph would develop a few motorcycles together.

The range was expected to start from 200cc and this entry-level model was expected to come with an ex-showroom price of under Rs 2 lakh. Having a Triumph motorcycle at that price is something that got all motorcyclists excited. This was made possible as Bajaj would be manufacturing the motorcycles at its new plant near Pune.

The first of the Bajaj-Triumph motorcycles were expected to debut in 2022, however, owing to the pandemic, there have been multiple delays. The motorcycles have been spotted on test earlier. Now though, clearer spy images have surfaced and it is quite easy to make out lots of details from these images.

Bajaj-Triumph Motorcycles Design

As aforementioned, two types of motorcycles have been spotted. One is a roadster/naked that keeps things minimal and simple. There are quite a few Triumph design traits, starting off with the circular headlamp. This is a signature Triumph element found on all its retro-modern motorcycles like the Bonneville range.

Upon looking closely, you will find rectangular LCD/TFT instrumentation and this looks very similar to the ones seen on the KTM range. However, we speculate that this is only for testing purposes and a circular console will be introduced on the production models.

Then comes the rounded-off fuel tank with knee recesses, which is another element that seems to have taken design inspiration from the Triumph Bonneville series. It also features a single-piece seat and a simple rear-end. The sid panels are also minimalist with vents and the chassis is also exposed.

The other motorcycle that has been spotted is the scrambler and this also looks very similar to the roadster. There are a few differences though. Up front is a nice little visor and there is also the signature scrambler-styled mudguard. You also get a different handlebar and knuckle guards.

At this moment, it is hard to tell which among these will be offered as standard equipment and what will be offered as optional accessories. The other major difference on the scrambler is the exhaust system. It is an upswept, twin-stack exhaust compared to the single end-can on the roadster.

Bajaj-Triumph Motorcycles Engine & Powertrain

This is still an area that is shrouded in mystery. There is so very little information that is available out there. At the time of the announcement, it was made clear that the range of motorcycles will be powered by a variety of engines starting from 200cc and going up to 500cc.

While everyone is excited about the prospects of a 200cc Triumph, there are quite a few of us wanting to have a go at the bigger capacity bikes as well. The scrambler and roadster in these spy pictures might just be powered by a 300-400cc unit, going by the size of the engine and cylinder.

In terms of aesthetics, it does seem like the engines are ready to hit the production line. They possess all the visual clues to tell you that it is a Triumph engine. The engine casing on both sides look very similar to the ones found on the bigger bikes in the Triumph Bonneville range.

It even has cooling fins to make it look like an air-cooled engine, but the large radiator makes it quite obvious that these are liquid-cooled engines. In terms of engine layout, it is expected to feature a 4-valve, DOHC setup.

Bajaj has been making such engines for a while now to power the Pulsar 200NS, Dominar 250, Dominar 400 and then the entire range of KTM motorcycles. It will be interesting to see if the Triumph-Bajaj engine will borrow anything at all from the current crop of engines.

Bajaj-Triumph Motorcycles Chassis, Suspension, Brakes & Tyres

There are quite a few visual clues with regard to the chassis, suspension, and brakes being used on the new motorcycles. To start off with, the chassis is a tubular steel frame that is relatively simple to manufacture when compared to the trellis frames used in the KTMs. This should certainly help in better pricing.

The rear sub-frame is bolt-on on both the roadster and the scrambler. Suspension duties are handled by a monoshock at the rear and an upside-down fork up front. It does appear like the USD fork on the scrambler has longer travel when compared to that on the roadster.

Braking is taken care of by a single disc brake at both ends. We speculate that the front disc is a 320mm unit that is pressed upon by a 4-piston radially-mounted caliper. That brings us to the tyres and wheels.

The images aren't clear enough to decipher if the roadster/naked is riding on 17 or 18-inch wheels. However, it is clear that they are shod with road-biased tyres. The scrambler on the other hand appears to be riding on a 19-inch wheel up front and this motorcycle is riding on Metzeler Karoo street-biased dual-purpose tyres.
