Bike Sales Report For December 2021: Bajaj Registers 3 Percent Degrowth On Year Sales
Bajaj Auto has released its sales report for December 2021. The two-wheeler manufacturer has registered a total sales of 3,18,769 units in domestic and export markets last month.
During the same period in 2020, Bajaj sold a total of 3,38,584 units, which has resulted in slight degrowth of 3 per cent on a Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) comparison. Also, a Month-on-Month (M-o-M) comparison of sales figures between November 2021 and December 2021 reveals degrowth of 3%.
Domestic Two-Wheeler Sales
Out of the total 3,18,769 units sold in the last month, 1,27,593 units were part of domestic sales, while the remaining 1,91,176 units were exported to various international markets that the brand caters to.
According to the sales report, December domestic sales saw a dip in numbers by 1% and 12% on Y-o-Y and M-o-M basis, respectively.
Export Two-Wheeler Sales
Similarly, the export operations have registered a dip in numbers as well in the month of December 2021. The numbers have done down by 9% and 1% on Y-o-Y and M-o-M basis, respectively.
Calendar Year Sales (2021)
Between January and December 2021, Bajaj Auto registered total sales of 17,58,192 two-wheelers in the domestic market. In the same period in 2020, the brand's domestic sales figure stood at 17,45,750 units. This translates to a marginal 0.7% Y-o-Y increase in annual sales in 2021.
Commercial Vehicle Sales
Bajaj Auto has registered 43,701 unit sales in the month of December 2021. The CV sales register growth by 29% as compared to December 2020 sales, which stood at 33,948 units.
The company has seen a massive growth of 68% in domestic CV sales in the last month. The sales numbers stood at 18,386 units and 10,964 units in December 2021 and December 2020, respectively.
Future Plans
Due to the growing demand for electric vehicles in India, especially in the two-wheeler and commercial vehicle segment, Bajaj has announced a new exclusive EV production facility in Akurdi, Pune.
The automaker is set to invest Rs 300 crore towards the new facility, which will help in Bajaj's efforts towards increasing its electric vehicle production in India. Currently, the company retails the Chetak electric scooter under the passenger two-wheeler segment.
However, sales of the electric scooter are affected due to the low production numbers. The new facility should help combat the ongoing issue and increase sales in the coming months.
Also, due to the growing demand in the commercial electric vehicle segment, we might get to see the Bajaj Qute Electric, which was spotted testing several times in the country ahead of its launch.
Thoughts About The Bajaj Bike Sales Report For December 2021
Amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Bajaj Auto has sustained and managed to show a marginal increase in sales in Calendar Year 2021. However, 2022, seems to be the year for the brand as the new EV facility will help bring the sales numbers up. Also, the brand's association with Triumph Motorcycles is expected to bear some news for eagerly-awaiting fans.
