Ather Energy To Launch Two New Variants Of Its Electric Scooter: May Get More Range & Power
Ather Energy is planning to launch two new variants of its Ather 450 range of electric scooters in India. Out of the two new variants, one of which may get a larger battery pack for an increased range.
The information regarding Ather Energy's plans to launch two new variants of its electric scooter came to light during an interaction with the company's CEO, Mr Tarun Mehta. As mentioned earlier, both new electric scooters from Ather Energy will be built on the company's existing electric scooter platform.
At present, Ather retails two variants of its Ather 450 range of electric scooters - Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus. Out of these two models, the Ather 450X electric scooter is the more premium variant.
Though details regarding the two new variants are thin, one of the new variants will feature a larger battery pack, whereas the other variant will be an iteration of Ather 450X in a sportier avatar with new colour options.
Recently, Ather Energy also rolled out a new OTA update for Ather 450 Plus and Ather 450X users in India. This new OTA update adds a ‘SmartEco' ride mode to the electric scooter.
This OTA update highlights one of the major advantages of using electric vehicles. With a simple OTA update, the performance, user interface, and overall experience can be improved without ever needing to visit an authorised service centre.
In the past also, Ather had released more than a few OTA updates to its electric scooters and has enabled features such as Trip Planner and Savings Tracker in its electric scooters as part of the OTA update.
However, as per Ather Energy, the new OTA update won't be available to all Ather 450 Plus and 450X electric scooter users, but it will be available to only those who have subscribed for the ‘Ather Connect Pro' subscription plan and also enabled the Ather Labs option in Ather App.
In addition to that, the user should have also downloaded the company's latest version of Atherstack software.
According to Ather Energy, the new ‘SmartEco' mode aims to achieve a decent balance between Eco and Sport modes. The new SmartEco mode claims to sense the requirements at any given point of time by factoring variables such as user riding style, load on the scooter, terrain, etc.
Speaking about Ather Energy, the EV manufacturer is one of the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India and the company sold 2,591 units of electric scooters in March 2022.
Also, Ather Energy recently celebrated the roll-out of its 25,000th unit of the Ather 450X electric scooter. This is an astonishing feat for a premium electric scooter as the milestone was achieved in just 2 years since the company started the production of the electric scooters at its new manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamilnadu.
The Ather electric scooters are equipped with features such as a large 7-inch TFT touchscreen digital instrument cluster, all-LED lighting systems, multiple ride modes, reverse mode, Tracking and many more.
The standard Ather 450 Plus is the base model and it is powered by a 5.4kW electric motor with 22Nm of torque and a 2.4kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. Whereas the more premium Ather 450X uses a more powerful 6kW electric motor with 26Nm of torque and also sports a bigger 2.9kWh Lithium-ion battery pack.
Thoughts About Ather Electric Scooters
The Ather electric scooters are well built and comes with a ton of features. The introduction of new variants will give Ather customers better flexibility in choosing their electric scooter. Apart from that, the upcoming variant with a larger battery pack is also likely to attract more customers to the showroom.
