Claims apart, let's analyse how much Ather 450X Gen3 has improved over its predecessor and what were the changes that Ather Energy introduced to improve the electric scooter over its predecessor.

Starting with the exterior, even an Ather anorak will be finding it difficult to spot the difference between the newly launched Ather 450X Gen3 and its predecessor. That is because there isn't any difference apart from the slightly wider rear view mirrors.

Not even a 'Gen3' badging can be found in the new Ather 450X Gen3 electric scooter to differentiate the model from its predecessor. But why fix what isn't outdated and still looks pretty contemporary.

Like Ather Energy has always done, the changes are skin deep and useful for its customers. For starters, the battery pack in the Ather 450X Gen3 is bigger at 3.7kWh instead of the 2.9kWh battery pack. Apart from that, the rear tyres are wider and measure 100/80-R12.

It is also worth mentioning that the new tyres in the Ather 450X Gen3 are co-developed with MRF. These tyres, according to Ather improves the handling of the electric scooter by a considerable margin.

Thanks to the larger battery pack, engineers at Ather Energy had to change the mounting points in the chassis to fit the battery pack and the larger battery pack also weighs 4Kg more as well.

Now coming to the gains of the bigger battery pack, the claimed range of the Ather 450X Gen3 is up from 116Km to 146Km. According to Ather Energy, the True Range of the new electric scooter is now 105Km instead of 85Km.

However, in warp mode, the claimed range of Ather 450X Gen3 drops to 65Km on a full charge, but it is still 10Km better than its predecessor.

Despite these changes, the company continues to use the 6kW electric motor from its predecessor for propulsion. Moreover, this electric motor produces an outstanding 26Nm of torque. For a perspective, the new Royal Enfield Meteor 350 motorcycle produces 27Nm of peak torque.

At present, the newly-launched Ather 450X Gen3 is priced at Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore), which is around Rs 5,000 more than its predecessor.
