German motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad has revealed the new S1000RR. The 2023 BMW S1000RR sports is the first time BMW's headline-making superbike has received an update since its arrival in 2019.
The new 2023 BMW S1000RR sports a more powerful engine along with more aero bits, an updated chassis and more advanced electronics.
2023 BMW S1000RR Engine, Chassis & Electronic Upgrades
The 2023 BMW S1000RR retains the 999cc in-line four-cylinder of the current bike, however, the newest version of the Bavarian superbike gets a little bit more power compared to its predecessor.
For the 2023 bike, the water-cooled engine pushes out 206.5bhp at an ear-shattering 13,750rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 11,000rpm. The S1000RR's engine revs all the way to 14,600rpm.
Power from the engine is sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox with an up/down quickshifter. Despite the increase in power, the new S1000RR offers more traction at the rear wheel thanks to a shorter secondary gear ratio. The 2023 S1000RR sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The superbike will continue to accelerate till it tops out in excess of 300km/h.
The BMW S1000RR sports an updated aluminium composite bridge frame which houses the liquid-cooled engine that acts as a stressed member. The frame of the new S1000RR sports several openings in the side areas that help optimise lateral flexibility.
The steering head angle of the 2023 S1000RR has been flattened out by 0.5 degrees and the offset of the triple clamps has been reduced by 3 mm which should help slow down the steering allowing for better stability at speed.
The 2023 BMW S1000RR sports an updated traction control setup which sports a new Slide Control function. This new feature allows the rider to select two preset drift angles for the traction control system when accelerating out of bends which is achieved by using a steering angle sensor. Also seen is the updated ABS setup with Brake Slide Assist that works the same way as the Slide Control but while sliding into corners under the brakes.
2023 BMW S1000RR Design & Aero Upgrades
The 2023 BMW S1000RR sports an updated front section with new aero winglets - that BMW claims add 10 kilos of downforce - wrapping underneath the sharp headlights and a taller front screen. The rear section of the new BMW S1000RR has also been redesigned and features a shorter number plate holder.
The BMW S1000RR rides on 17-inch die-cast aluminium wheels. Owners opting for the race package get upgraded forged aluminium wheels while those who opt for the M package get carbon wheels. The front wheel of the S1000RR is clad in 120/70 R17 rubber while the rear wheel is shod in a 190/55 R17 tyre.
Opting for the Race package brings down the fully laden weight of the new 2022 BMW S1000RR from 197 kilos to 195.4 kilogrammes. The M package brings the weight down even further to 193.5kg.
