TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Vs Bajaj Pulsar NS200
The 200cc segment motorcycle is a dream for many youngsters who go through college life, moreover, this segment is the last resort for anyone looking for a long-distance touring motorcycle on a very tight budget.
Since manufacturers are always on the hunt to grab more customers, almost all motorcycle manufacturers in India have a unique offering on the 200cc segment.
However, it is the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj NS200 that managed to grab the most screen time in the dreams of many youngsters.
In this comparison, we shall look at four parameters; Design, Features & Convenience, Powertrain, and Price.
1. Design
As I always say, design is a subjective matter, and both the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar NS200 are designed to grab the attention of youngsters.
Starting with the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, it is the bike with the newest design here and it looks fresh and sharp.
The recent update to the TVS Apache RTR 4V has made it look even sharper and contemporary with the updated headlight assembly, DRLs, body graphics and colour options.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 on the other hand still uses the same basic design that was launched way back in 2012 but somehow Bajaj has managed to make it just as fresh as other bikes in this group. Moreover, the perimeter frame makes it look modern and sophisticated.
2. Features & Convenience
Unlike other segments, people have a wide variety of requirements and expectations on the 200cc segment motorcycle. As mentioned earlier, the 200cc segment motorcycle is a dream grabber of many youngbloods as well as the last resort to anyone looking for a long-distance touring motorcycle.
This means the bikes should be loaded with features that cater to long-distance rides as well as offer something to brag amongst friends circle for the youngsters.
TVS has this category licked, the new update brings features such as Bluetooth connectivity. Turn-by-Turn navigation, low fuel warning and assist, lean angle mode, crash alert, Call/SMS alert, gear indicator, race telemetry and much more.
Moreover, TVS Apache RTR 2004V also comes with features such as LED headlamps, digital instrument console, dual-channel ABS with RLP (Rear wheel Lift-off Protection) control, Slipper Clutch, 270mm petal disc brakes at front, 240mm petal disc brake at the rear, TVS Smart XConnect and many more.
Bajaj NS200 is having the oldest electronics here and it is clearly visible as it doesn't even offer LED headlamps. However, Bajaj has given all the basic features and equipment such as a part digital instrument display, 230mm rear disc brake, single-channel ABS and a few more goodies.
3. Powertrain
Powertrain plays a significant role in the 200cc segment and that is one of the major reasons why people are spending extra money compared to a 160cc motorcycle
The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is the most powerful bike in this comparison. It produces 24 bhp and 18,5 Nm of torque from its 4-Stroke 4-valve liquid-cooled Triple Spark BS6 DTS- FI engine. However, it is also the heaviest at 156 kgs.
Moreover, it also comes with a very touring-friendly 6-speed gearbox setup.
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V at least on paper doesn't even stand a chance against the Bajaj Pulsar NS200. The 198cc 4-valve oil-cooled engine produces just 20 bhp and 17.4 Nm of torque and it is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. However, it is lighter than the more powerful Bajaj Pulsar NS200 at just 152 kgs.
4. Price
In India, pricing plays a crucial role in the buying decision of many people, irrespective of the product.
At Rs 1,33,065 (ex-showroom, Delhi) the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V comes with the lowest entry price. However, the version with dual-channel ABS costs Rs 1,38,115 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
On the other hand, the Pulsar NS200 is also priced very similarly with a starting price of Rs 1,33,210 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About TVS Apache RTR 200 4V & Bajaj Pulsar 200 4V
It is a tie. The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V offers more features and goodies, whereas the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 counters it with a more powerful drivetrain setup.
So, the decision depends on the priority you set. With a more powerful engine and a 6-speed gearbox, the Bajaj Pulsar can really stretch its legs on long-distance rides, whereas the feature-loaded TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is a friendlier motorcycle in day-to-day life.
