Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Creates New Record At Australia Speed Week: Here Are The Details!

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is said to have broken a four-year-old speed record at the Australian Speed Week. The event held in Lake Gairdner, South Australia saw the Mid Life Cycles' Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer set a class record of 212.514km/h (132.050 mph).

The Mid Life Cycles' Interceptor 650 was entered in Class M-F 650, consisting of 650cc streamlined motorcycles running with commercially available unleaded fuel. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer broke the previous record of 119.961 mph (or 193.058km/h) set back in 2016 at the same venue.

The Interceptor 650 from Royal Enfield broke the old class record in each of its runs, before achieving its own record of 132.050mph on the final sprint. The record-breaking runs on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer was done by Charlie Hallam.

On the first day of Speed Week, Hallam recorded a top speed of 121.782mph on his first run. This was further backed by a higher 123.601mph in the second run on the first day, giving him a provisional record speed of 122.691mph.

Charlie Hallam and the Interceptor 650 fared even better on day two. On the first run, the motorcycle clocked 128.935mph while the second run clocked 130.204mph. The afternoon of day two, Hallem edged slightly forward by clocking 130.370mph, before being impounded for the day.

Geelong-based Harness Racing Australia team headed by Andrew and Kate Hallam were already impressed with the capabilities of the Interceptor 650. However Charlie pushed the motorcycle even harder the third day recording a stunning 133.779mph top speed, for a new record of 132.050mph (212.514m/h).

The Mid Life Cycles Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Salt Racer motorcycle carried forward the same 650-twin package with the twin loop steel frame from the road-bike. The motorcycle came with minimal modifications as allowed under the class rules.

Commenting on the achievement, Vinod Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield said,

"The Royal Enfield 650 Twins are one of our finest motorcycles and have continuously set new benchmarks in motorcycling. This is the second time that we have established a remarkable feat with the Twins, in 2018, the Bonneville Racer recorded an impressive top speed of over 159 mph at Bonneville Salt Flats and this speed record is yet another remarkable feat for us."

He further added, "This recognition validates the tremendous progress we continue to make in our journey and we hope this will inspire many more motorcyclists to push their boundaries and achieve the pursuit of excellence."

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has set a new record at Australia Speed Week. The Interceptor 650 top speed is impressive considering it comes with a single-cam air-cooled parallel-twin unit. The motorcycle has won a number of awards across the world since its launch in 2018.
