The 2021 Dakar Rally has come to an end with most participants crossing the finish line. The Dakar Rally is known to be the most dangerous race in the world. Pierre Cherpin who was competing as a privateer has died in the hospital because of injuries sustained during the crash.

Pierre Cherpin suffered a massive crash in Stage 7 of the rally race. He was found unconscious by the doctors, who arrived at the crash site. He was first taken to Sakaka's hospital, where the medical report revealed a severe head trauma with loss of consciousness.

He was immediately operated for sustained head wounds by the neurosurgery department. After the surgery, he was kept in an induced coma. Pierre's condition was stable over the past few days. He was airlifted from Sakaka to Jeddah's hospital still being an induced coma state.

Pierre was then being transferred to his country France for further medication and treatment. However, he was sadly declared dead on Thursday before reaching his home country. The desert has again proved its toughness for participants competing in the race.

To avoid such an unfortunate event, the organizers of the rally race introduced new rules to protect the participants. This includes mandatory use of airbag vets for participants competing in the Moto and Quad class. Despite the improved safety, the rally race still lost a life due to its harsh and unforgiving terrain.

The French rider was completing for the 4th time in the Dakar Rally. He started his Dakar Rally journey back in the year 2009. He entered the race in the Malle Moto category without any assistance. He completed in 103rd place and came back again in 2012 in the same category to complete in 84th place.

In the year 2015, he had to abandon the rally due to an engine failure. After six years, the Frenchman entered the world of Dakar rally again as a privateer to compete in the Original by Motul previously called Malle Moto class.

Pierre Cherpin was 52-year-old and a sailing enthusiast. He only goal was to experience an adventure of the rally race. During an interview before the start of the rally race, he stated that the was not really looking to win the race. He said, "I am an amateur, I don't want to win but to discover landscapes that I would never have had the opportunity to see otherwise. Everything is exciting: riding the bike, living out your passion, getting to know yourself."
