New (2021) Kawasaki Z650 & Versys 1000 Launched In India: Pricing, Updates & Other Details

Kawasaki has launched the new (2021) Z650 and the Versys 1000 motorcycles in the Indian market. The 2021 Kawasaki Z650 and the Versys 1000 model feature a couple of upgrades along with a new price tag.

The 2021 Kawasaki Z650 now retails at Rs 6.04 lakh — which is Rs 10,000 more than the previous model. On the other hand, the Versys 1000 now cost Rs 11.19 lakh — which is Rs 20,000 more than the old model. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (India).

Speaking about the changes to the 2021 Z650, the new middleweight naked sports bike has received a new paint scheme called Metallic Spark Black. The new paint scheme makes the motorcycle look more aggressive with green highlights around the motorcycle.

This includes the headlamp cowl fuel tank and tank shrouds. The frame and the alloy wheels are also finished in green. Apart from the new paint scheme, the rest of the motorcycle remains the same as its predecessor model.

The middle-weight naked motorcycle will continue to be powered by the same liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, 649cc engine. It produces a maximum of 67.3bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 64Nm at 6,700rpm. The engine will continue to come mated to a six-speed gearbox. It misses out on a slip-assist clutch.

The naked motorcycle follows the brand's 'Sugomi' design along with LED headlamp and taillamps. It also continues to feature the 4.3-inch TFT screen for the instrument console. The instrument cluster is also Bluetooth enabled for smartphone pairing. Riders can use Kawasaki's 'Rideology' smartphone application for added connectivity features. It offers a host of information and rider telemetry to the user.

Moving to the other motorcycle launched in the country, the 2021 Versys 1000. The brand's flagship adventure-motorcycle has received several upgrades for the new price tag. The 2021 Versys will carry forward the same mechanical, however, the suspension and the engine have been re-tuned.

Starting with the engine, The Kawasaki Versys 1000 is powered by a BS6 compliant 1,043 cc, liquid-cooled, in-line-four engine. It produces a maximum of 118bhp at 9000rpm and a peak torque of 102Nm at 7500rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch. The re-tuned engine will now offer more low-end and mid-range power to suit the characteristics of the ADV motorcycle.

The suspension duties on the motorcycle are handled by a 43mm USD fork with 150mm travel, and a mono-shock setup at the rear with 152mm travel. Both units are fully adjustable for rebound damping and spring preload. The new suspension setup on the 2021 motorcycle is slightly has a softer setup to soak up the potholes and bumps on the road.

However, the rest of the features on the updated ADV-tourer remains the same. Braking is done via dual 310mm disc brakes at the front and a 250mm disc brake at the rear. The Versys 1000 features a host of electronic rider aids. These include IMU-based (KCMF) Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, (KTRC) Kawasaki Traction Control, (KIBS) Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock brakes, and standard electronic cruise control; among others.

2021 Versys 1000 features twin-LED headlamps with a beak that makes for an aggressive front fascia. Both the rider and the pillion-rider seats are wide and long that supports longer journeys on the motorcycle. It also features an adjustable windscreen, semi-digital instrument cluster with analogue tachometer, and a DC charging socket.

Despite the new price, the 2021 Kawasaki Z650 is the brand's entry-level motorcycle offering in the country. The 2021 Z650 is also among the most affordable middleweight naked sports bike available in the country. On the other hand, the company has made a few integral changes to the 2021 Versys 1000 to suit the Indian road conditions.
