The Honda CB300R was first introduced in India in February 2019 as a Completely Knocked Down(CKD) unit. However, when the new BS VI norms arrived in April 2020, Honda discontinued the naked CB300R as the engine on offer wasn't compliant with the updated emission rules. The new Honda CB300R BS VI like its predecessor will be sold in CKD guise when it arrives next month.

The new BS VI version of the Honda CB300R is will sport an updated version of the fuel injected 286cc single cylinder engine that powered the previous version of the naked bike. In the BS IV version of the Honda CB300R, the liquid-cooled, 4 valve, dual overhead cam engine produced 30bhp at 8,000rpm and 27.4Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine was paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a slipper clutch.

Honda has not revealed the power and torque figures of the BS VI version of the CB300R's engine. However, we expect the new bike to feature similar figures as its predecessor. The new bike gets the slipper clutch as part of its standard equipment list.

Also retained is the trellis frame chassis found on the previous bike along with the 41mm upside down front fork (now painted gold instead of silver) and a mono shock at the rear.

The previous CB300R's brakes have been carried forward into the new version of Honda's 300cc naked bike. The hubless floating front disc measures 296mm in diameter and features four-piston callipers while the rear wheel is braked using a 220mm diameter disc brake. The brakes are ably assisted by dual-channel ABS which works on Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for uniform front to rear ABS braking, optimum body weight distribution and minimal rear lift due to sudden braking.

The new Honda CB300R also carries forward the minimalistic LCD display of its predecessor. The LCD panel now sports a few new additional features including a gear position and side stand indicator with engine inhibitor.

The new CB300R BSVI will be offered in two colour options - Matte Steel Black & Pearl Spartan Red.

Thoughts On The BS VI Honda CB300R

The new Honda CB300R will see Honda return to the 300cc segment with a naked streetfighter for the first time in nearly two years. If the new bike is anything like the previous CB300R, then we expect it to be a popular option despite the high price tag that is expected to be slapped on it.
