Greaves Electric Mobility Opens Massive EV Factory In Tamil Nadu

The facility was inaugurated virtually by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin. Also present at the virtual opening was Tamil Nadu's Minister for Industries, Thangam Thenarasu.

The new EV manufacturing facility is located in Ranipet, which is a major industrial town in the state of Tamil Nadu. Greaves Electric Mobility claims that the 35 acre EV manufacturing plant will be used to produce electric two and three-wheeled vehicles for both the Indian and export markets.

The new facility in Ranipet is part of the company's Rs 700 crore roadmap to expand its share of the electric vehicle market in India. Greaves Electric Mobility claims that the facility will have the capacity to produce 1.2 lakh (120,000) electric vehicles by the end of the current fiscal year which will be gradually ramped up to 10 lakh (1 million) units in the near future. When the new plant becomes fully operational 70 per cent of the workforce will be women.

Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the new Greaves Electric Mobility facility in Ranipet, Thangam Thenarasu, Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, said, "Electric Mobility is gaining momentum and we are fully committed to offering every possible support to the automobile industry here. More factories like Greaves Electric Mobility will uplift the community and it is absolutely wonderful to see how the company has employed the majority of women workers in the plant. To make India the world's manufacturing hub, we must prioritise upskilling and creating jobs for our female workforce."

Nagesh A Basavanhalli, the MD and Group CEO of Greaves Cotton Limited also spoke at the opening of the new facility. He said, "We are focused on building affordable, reliable and dependable electric two-wheelers for commuters across the country, which aligns with our purpose of decarbonizing last-mile transportation for a better planet. This EV mega-site will help us meet the rising needs of discerning customers and fleet purchasers in the last mile mobility market as we expand our capacities to produce a million EVs a year in future. This Plant will also allow us to nurture a highly skilled workforce and generate employment for the local community including women who form 70% of our workforce."

The new Greaves Electric Mobility production facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu is compliant with the Government of India's flagship initiatives of 'Make In India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' which promote indigenous capabilities in manufacturing.

Greaves Electric Mobility is one of the fastest-growing companies in the two and three-wheeler EV space in India. The company currently has a robust retail and after-sales network with 7000+ touchpoints, 12000 associate mechanics and a dedicated on-call support team. The company sold over 7,500 electric vehicles in the month of October.
