TVS has not made any official announcement about the price increase. However, there could be several reasons behind the price hike such as motorcycles achieving BS6 compliance, and the losses incurred by the company tackling the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
The BS6 versions of the RTR 160 4V and the RTR 200 4V were launched in November last year. The Apache RTR 160 4V range gets a price hike of Rs 2,000 while the Apache RTR 200 4V gets a price hike of Rs 2,500.

Talking about the BS6 motorcycles, TVS added a couple of new features to the Apache RTR 160 4V and the 200 4V. IT features new LED headlamps, resigned position lamps, feather touch start, new body graphics, and the brand's (GTT) Glide Through Technology to manoeuvre in stop-start traffic.
However, the bigger RTR 200 V features a little more equipment over the 160 4V. These include a Bluetooth enabled LCD instrument cluster that supports the brand's ‘SmartXConnect' connected technology offering a host of information including rider telemetry data as well. It also features a Race-Tuned slipper clutch, dual-channel ABS with rear lift mitigation, redesigned rear-view mirror and more.
The 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V features a new fuel-injected 197.75 cc single-cylinder, four-valve, air/oil-cooled engine. It produces a maximum power output of 20.2bhp at 8,500rpm, and a peak torque of 16.8Nm at 7,500rpm. In comparison, the BS4 model had a peak torque output of 18.1Nm at 7,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a standard five-speed gearbox.
Moving to the 2020 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, the motorcycle is powered by a 159.7 cc, single-cylinder, four-valve, air/oil-cooled engine. It produces a maximum power output of 15.8bhp at 8,250rpm and a peak torque of 14.12Nm at 7,250rpm — 0.8bhp and 0.7Nm of torque less than the BS4 model.
In related news, TVS has announced a salary cut for its employees for six months due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic in the country. Like most manufacturers, TVS also had to temporarily suspend its entire operations in the wake of the nation-wide lockdown announced in the country — here are more details.
Thoughts About The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V & RTR 200 4V Price Increase
TVS has increased the price of its RTR series motorcycles. There could be several reasons behind the price increase, it is expected to be mainly because of losses incurred by the brand due to the ongoing pandemic. TVS has to temporary suspended its operations across the globe to ensure the safekeeping of its workforce during these trying times. The increase is minimal and is not expected to affect sales of these motorcycles.
