Triumph Street Triple R India Launch Scheduled On August 11: New Teaser Video

Triumph Motorcycle India will soon add another motorcycle to the line-up. The two-wheeler manufacturer has confirmed that the Street Triple R will be launching on August 11, 2020, in the Indian market.

The company has revealed the launch timeline of the upcoming street-naked motorcycle on its social media channels. It has also released a short teaser video revealing the timeline along with the official hashtag #TheDefinitiveStreetfighter.

Ahead of its launch, Triumph Motorcycles India has already begun taking pre-bookings for the Street Triple R for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The soon-to-be-launched motorcycle will be the new entry-level variant in the Street Triple line-up, replacing the ‘S' variant sold in the past.

The Street Triple R will be powered by the same 765cc, in-line three-cylinder engine as the RS variant. However, the engine on the ‘R' will have a slightly lower state of tune. The engine produces a maximum power of 116bhp at 12,000rpm and a peak torque of 77Nm at 9,400rpm.

It is around 5bhp and 2Nm less than the RS's engine power figures. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assisted clutch. Apart from a slightly detuned engine, the Street Triple R also misses on certain nice-to-have features as compared to the RS variant.

Starting with the instrument console, the ‘R' variant only features an LCD with an analogue tachometer as compared to a TFT colour display. Additionally, It comes with only two riding modes, as supposed to three on the Triple RS.

However, the overall design and silhouette of the motorcycle remain the same as that of the top-specs RS variant. It continues to feature an aggressive-looking frontend with twin-pod LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs.

Suspension duties on the upcoming motorcycle are handled by a 41mm forks at the front and a mono-shock setup at the rear, both of which are sourced from Showa and are fully-adjustable. Braking on the motorcycle is done via 310mm disc brake at the front and a 220mm disc brake at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.

Once launched the Triumph Street Triple R will rival the newly launched BMW F 900 R, the Kawasaki Z900 and the soon-to-be-launched BS6 KTM 790 Duke; among others in the Indian market.

Considering the Triumph Street Triple RS retails at Rs 11.33 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi), we expect the Street Triple R to be priced around Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom.

The Triumph Street Triple R does miss out on a couple of features and electronic aids over the top-spec RS variant. It also produces lesser power and torque from a detuned engine. However, considering the weight of the motorcycle, it is still expected to offer maximum bang for the buck.
