Triumph Motorcycle India confirmed earlier that they are bringing the new Street Triple R in the Indian market. Once launched, 'R' variant becomes the new base model in the Street Triple line-up.

According to Zigwheels, the company is expected to launch the new motorcycle sometime in the next week. There were also reports of some authorised dealers in the country who have begun to accept bookings for the Street Triple R, unofficially ahead of its launch.

This will be the first time that the Street Triple R will be introduced into the Indian market by the company. It will replace the Street Triple S, which was the entry-level variant in the country for years.

The Street Triple R was the top-spec variant in the company's line-up for a long time. However, it was changed, when Triumph introduced a new range-topping Triumph Street Triple RS back in 2017.

The Street Triple R will be powered by the same 765cc, in-line three-cylinder engine as the RS variant, however, with a slightly lower state of tune. The engine produces a maximum power of 116bhp at 12,000rpm and a peak torque of 77Nm at 9,400rpm. This is around 5bhp and 2Nm less than the RS's engine power figures. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assisted clutch.

Other mechanical parts on the Street Triple R also gets downgraded as compared to the RS variant. It only features an LCD with an analogue tachometer as compared to a TFT colour display. It features only two riding modes, as supposed to three on the Triple RS.

Suspension duties on the upcoming motorcycle are handled by a 41mm forks at the front and a mono-shock setup at the rear, both of which are sourced from Showa and are fully-adjustable. Braking on the motorcycle is done via 310mm disc brake at the front and a 220mm disc brake at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.

Once launched the Triumph Street Triple R will rival the newly launched BMW F 900 R, the Kawasaki Z900 and the soon-to-be-launched BS6 KTM 790 Duke; among others in the Indian market. The Triumph Street Triple R is expected to be priced aggressively by the company, that could be under Rs 10 lakh.

Although the Street Triple R is now the base-spec model, we cannot forget the fact that it is still bearing the same updated engine. It will still be an excellent middle-weight motorcycle for buyers in the Indian market. Triumph Motorcycles is aggressively launching new models in the India market to increase their presence in the country.
