Best Bike Launches Of 2020 In India: Here’s Our Top-10 List From All The Bikes Introduced this Year!
The year 2020, even with the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, managed to debut a number of new motorcycles in the Indian two-wheeler market.
This includes motorcycles from various brands and across all segments ranging from entry-level commuters to high-end adventure, performance and/or cruiser offerings. There were also a number of updates on older models as well as a few special edition versions as well.
Arranged in no particular order, here are our top-10 bikes which launched in the Indian market during the course of the 2020 Calendar year.
Hero Xtreme 160R
The Hero Xtreme 160R is an all-new product from Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer. The Xtreme 160R is an entry-level naked streetfighter offering from the brand, offered with a host of modern features and technology at an affordable price tag.
The Hero MotoCorp 160R is offered in two variants: single-disc and double-disc, with a starting price of Rs 1.02 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). The motorcycle is powered by a 163cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 15bhp and 14Nm of peak torque. The Xtreme 160R rivals the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160 and the Suzuki Gixxer 155 in the segment.
Honda Hornet 2.0
The Honda Hornet 2.0 is the brand's all-new product for the Indian market. While the ‘Hornet' name has been on sale in India for a while, the new 2.0 model is a completely different product from its predecessor.
To start with, the new Honda Hornet 2.0 now comes with a larger 184cc segment, moving away from the previous 160cc category. The new motorcycle also features a revamped styling, along with being packed with a host of features and equipment as well.
The Honda Hornet 2.0 is offered with a price tag, starting at Rs 1.27 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). The motorcycle with its 184cc engine churning out 17bhp and 16.1Nm of torque, rivals models in the slightly higher 200cc segment.
KTM 250 Adventure
The KTM 250 Adventure is the newest entry-level offering in the brand's ADV lineup in India. The new 250 Adventure carries forward the same design elements and most of the equipment from its larger 390 Adventure, however, comes powered by the smaller 250cc engine from its 250 Duke sibling.
The KTM 250 Adventure even has the same power and torque figures as its Duke sibling. The entry-level ADV though is priced at Rs 2.48 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi); slightly more expensive than its 250 Duke sibling.
Husqvarna 250 Twins
Husqvarna, the Swedish bike brand entered the Indian market in February 2020. The company which was initially supposed to introduce its 401 models, came ahead with smaller 250cc displacement versions of the Svartpilen and Vitpilen motorcycles. Both motorcycles were initially unveiled at the 2019 India Bike Week, held in Goa.
The Husqvarna 250-twins use the same KTM 250cc engine as the Duke and Adventure offering from the Austrian brand. Both the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 are priced at Rs 1.85 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi) and offer a modern design with minimalistic styling.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a brand new motorcycle from the Chennai-based brand in India. The Meteor 350 is a modern-classic cruiser, which replaced the brand's Thunderbird 350 model. Royal Enfield offers the Meteor 350 with a brand new SOHC 350cc engine, along with a host of new features and equipment.
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 comes in three variants, with prices starting from 1.75 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi). The new Meteor 350 is the first motorcycle from Royal Enfield to feature a SOHC, which is expected to be trickled down to other models in its lineup as well.
Honda H'Ness CB 350
The Honda H'ness CB 350 is the Japanese brand's answer to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The H'ness CB 350 is a completely new motorcycle, built for the Indian market. The motorcycle will be sold across India via its premium BIg-Wing dealerships and is priced at Rs 1.85 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
The Honda H'ness CB 350 uses a 350cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine producing 20.8bhp and 30Nm of peak torque. It also features a bunch of features, along with connected technology as well.
KTM 390 Adventure
The KTM 390 Adventure was the Austrian brand's first ADV offering in the Indian market. The motorcycles based on the 390 Duke, came with a host of features and equipment and was one of the most anticipated models in the market at that time. The KTM 390 Adventure used the same engine as on its Duke and RC siblings, while also carrying forward a few components as well.
The KTM 390 Adventure is priced at Rs 3.04 lakh, ex-showroom (India) and offers an excellent combination of style, performance and off-road capabilities, making it one the most attractive offerings in the segment.
BS6 BMW G 310 Twins
While the BMW G 310 Twins, consisting of the G 310 R (naked streetfighter) and G 310 GS (adventure-tourer) have been on sale for a while now, both of them received extensive updates on the 2020 BS6-compliant versions.
BMW even managed to reduce the prices for both motorcycles, which are now available at Rs 2.45 lakh for the G 310 R and Rs 2.85 lakh for the G 310 GS models, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom (India).
Along with a host of new features, updated graphics and paint scheme; the two motorcycles come powered by a BS6-compliant 312cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 34bhp and 28Nm of peak torque. This engine is the same unit used on the TVS Apache RR310 model as well.
Triumph Tiger 900
The Triumph Tiger 900 was introduced in the Indian market earlier this year and replaces the Tiger 800 in the brand's lineup. The new Triumph Tiger 900 comes with a price tag of Rs 13.7 lakh, ex-showroom (India) and is a significant improvement from the model it replaces, both in terms of features on offer as well its performance and handling capabilities.
The new Triumph Tiger 900 comes powered by an 888cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It produces 94bhp and 87Nm of peak torque. The motorcycle is currently the entry-level offering in the popular Tiger range of offerings, before the arrival of the Tiger 850 next year.
BMW R 18 Cruiser
The BMW R 18 is the brand's latest flagship, heavyweight cruiser offering in the Indian market. The R 18 cruiser comes with the brand's latest 1800cc boxer engine producing 90bhp and 158Nm of peak torque.
The BMW R 18 Cruiser is offered in two variants: Standard and First Edition. Prices for the same range between Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.40 lakh, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom (India).
