Royal Enfield Flying Flea & Roadster Names Trademarked: New RE Motorcycles Coming Up
Royal Enfield has trademarked two new names — 'Flying Flea’ and 'Roadster’. This news comes just a couple of months after the brand trademarked the 'Sherpa’ and 'Hunter’ names as well.
Going by this, it is safe to assume that Royal Enfield is working on four new motorcycles. Royal Enfield has been on a roll in recent times. For ages, the brand made motorcycles that didn’t really interest riding enthusiasts.
In recent times however, the brand made motorcycles like the Himalayan, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 that have impressed motorcyclists all over. The 650 twins from Royal Enfield were a huge step-up from its other bikes and it seems like Royal Enfield doesn’t intend to stop there.
Now, RE has trademarked the Flying Flea and Roadster names. Well, Royal Enfield has resurrected some of its historic names to be used on its modern motorcycles, like the Interceptor and Continental GT.
Well, the Flying Flea too is a historic name that is being brought up again. The Royal Enfield Flying Flea is one of the most iconic motorcycles of all time. ‘Flying Flea’ was the nickname given to the Royal Enfield WD/RE motorcycle that did active duty in World War II.
It was instrumental in the victory of the allies and was of great help to the British troops as it was extremely versatile. It could be air-dropped through parachutes, transported via gliders, etc. It came with its own little cage for a safe landing, and thereafter, the troops on the ground could use it to cover distances rather quickly.
It was extremely helpful in getting messages to troops at the front line where radio contact was not possible or unsafe. Safe to say, the Flying Flea is a legendary motorcycle and we will soon get to see a modern version.
The ‘Roadster’ is not a historic Royal Enfield nameplate that is being resurrected. RE never made a motorcycle called the Roadster and hence it is safe to say that it is a brand new motorcycle.
The very name suggests it will be a single seater, maybe even a hardtail. It could be the production version of the Royal Enfield Concept KX 838. It might even be targeted directly at a few models from Harley-Davidson and Triumph. No other details exist for now.
Royal Enfield also previously trademarked the Sherpa and Hunter names. These hint at entry level classic and adventure motorcycles.
Thoughts On Royal Enfield Trademarking Flying Flea & Roadster Names
With the 650 twins, Royal Enfield managed to impress critics. Well, with these new motorcycles coming up, Royal Enfield’s just started to sound more exciting and we are quite looking forward to it.
