Aprilia Evaluating New Motorcycles In 300cc to 400cc Segment For India: Here Are All Details

Aprilia is currently evaluating the launch of new motorcycles that will be made in India. However, it will not be the Aprilia RS 150 and the Tuono 150 motorcycles that were showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. Instead, it will be more powerful motorcycles, which will use an engine of displacement between 300cc and 400cc.

Piaggio India's MD and CEO, Diego Graffi, confirmed the news of the upcoming motorcycles during the launch of new Vespa Racing Sxties scooter in the Indian market. These new motorcycles will be designed in Italy with inputs from Aprilia India.

However, the real exciting news is that these motorcycles will be manufactured in India. The company has also announced that it would then export these new motorcycles to other Asian markets from the country.

The plans of bringing the RS 150 and the Tuono 150 has been shelved for the country. The company feels that the Indian market has evolved with the entry-level motorcycle segment. Currently, it requires a motorcycle between 250cc to 300cc to successfully penetrate the market.

Coming back to new motorcycles from Aprilia, Mr Graffi did not reveal any details apart from what is mentioned above. However, he confirmed that new motorcycles are two to three years away from production.

The current crop motorcycles available in India between 300cc and 400cc segment are having a host of models that are either currently on sale or will be introduced soon. The models that are currently on sale include the KTM 390 range, the Royal Enfield range, TVS Apache RR310. On the other hand, some are scheduled to arrive later in the year such as the BMW G310 Twins, Kawasaki 400 and the Honda CB300R; among others.

As a result, the upcoming faired and naked version of the powerful Aprilia motorcycles will have its work cut out to go up against established brands in the segment. Royal Enfield, KTM and TVS among others have proved that a good middle-weight motorcycle could be developed and manufacturer in India, while keeping the price-sensitive Indian market happy with costing.

Although nothing has revealed about the motorcycle, we could expect it to feature some of the basic components such as USD forks, a fully-digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, LED lighting, six-speed gearbox with a slip-assisted clutch. It could also feature a couple of riding modes, although it is not a necessity.

With the manufacturing of these upcoming motorcycle in the country, we could expect Aprilia to be super aggressive with the pricing. Also, the styling of the motorcycles could be inspired from its elder siblings such as the RSV4 1100 and the Tuono V4 1100.
