Superbikes cost a lot of money, especially, if it is a limited edition, hence there are many ways to get them to our shores through illegal routes or by forging the documents to pay minimal taxes. However, the customs office does keep a watch on such imports and often takes action against them by seizing the vehicle. After that, the owner is asked to pay the heavy fines and taxes.

Here are a few images shared by Exotics and Imports Spotted in Kerala of a rare Ducati 1098 S Tricolore, which is left abandoned in Kochi customs. The Ducati 'Tricolore' tradition began in 1985 with the stunning 750 F1 and then continued with the limited edition 851. There were only 1,013 units manufactured for the Ducati 1098 S (making it super rare) and it was launched back in 2007.

The 1098 S was an all-new motorcycle and was built around a tubular steel trellis frame. It also got additional features such as the wheels finished in traditional 'racing gold' colours. Intended for track use only, the motorcycle got a Termignoni racing muffler kit with a dedicated ECU that was supplied with the 1098 S.

Mechanically. the 1099cc, was powered by an L-Twin engine. The unit was capable of pumping out 160bhp of power at 9,750 rpm and 123Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. The engine was mated to a six-speed transmission. When the motorcycle was launched in 2007, it offered the highest torque-to-weight ratio in any production sports bike ever.

Other features included a fully adjustable suspension system with a 43mm Ohlins front fork and Ohlins 46PRC monoshock. It also had a single-sided swingarm. This special edition also came with lightweight components like tyres, brakes, forged alloy wheels that were 1.9 kg lighter than the regular version and a carbon fibre fender in the front.

The Ducati 1098 S was way ahead of its time when it was launched in 2007. The motorcycle was fast, light-weight, and very agile. It is really sad to see that such a good limited motorcycle has been left abandoned in some junkyard.
