KTM 250 Adventure Vs 390 Adventure: Which Of The Siblings Should You Consider?
KTM recently introduced the much-awaited 250 Adventure motorcycle in the Indian market. The new KTM 250 Adventure is now the entry-level offering in the brand's ADV-lineup and is positioned below its larger sibling, the 390 Adventure.
The KTM 250 Adventure carries forward a lot of components from its larger sibling. However, the 250 Adv model is more affordable and is aimed towards those customers, entering the Adventure-biking segment for the first-time.
While both motorcycles have a similar design and even share certain components, a closer look reveals that there are many differences between the two. So, let's have a look as to what these differences are and whether these changes justify both motorcycles in their respective price brackets.
Design
The KTM 250 Adventure carries forward the same design as its larger sibling. However, both motorcycles feature different body graphics, which help differentiate between the two. Other differences to its design are on the front, the two adventure-tourer offerings come with a different set of headlamp units.
While the 390 Adventure features a full LED setup, the 250 Adventure comes with conventional halogen headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. Apart from this, most other aspects on the KTM 250 Adventure seem to have been carried over from its larger displacement sibling.
Another minor aesthetic change though is the colour options on the two siblings. While the ‘KTM Orange' is standard on both models, the 390 Adventure features a White paint scheme as its second option, while the 250 Adventure model comes in Black.
Features
While the design of both the siblings seems to be identical, with just a few differences, the majority of the differences are in terms of the features each of the Adventure motorcycles offer. Having said that, both the 250 and 390 Adventure models do come packed with features, however, the list is slightly longer on the larger sibling.
The KTM 250 Adventure comes with halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillights, LED indicators, knuckle guards, USB charging socket, bash plate, a basic digital instrument cluster (carried forward from the 200 Duke model), MRF tyres and switchable dual-channel ABS.
The larger KTM 390 Adventure motorcycle, however, carries forward most of these features, while also coming packed with LED headlamp units, multiple ride modes, cornering ABS, adjustable windscreen, dual-purpose Continental tyres and most importantly a TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.
Engine Specifications
Starting off with the KTM 250 Adventure, the motorcycle comes powered by a 248cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It produces 29.5bhp and 24Nm of peak torque, paired with a six-speed manual.
The KTM 390 Adventure comes with a 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It produces 43bhp and 37Nm of peak torque and is paired to the same six-speed gearbox.
Mechanical Parts
Most of the mechanical parts of the two motorcycles are the same. Both the KTM 250 Adventure and 390 Adventure come with 43mm upside-down forks at the front with 170mm travel, while the rear features a mono-shock with 177mm of travel. Braking on the motorcycles is via a single 320mm disc up front and a 200mm disc at the rear.
Both motorcycles also offer identical seat height of 855mm and a ground clearance of 200mm. The motorcycles run on 19-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels at the front and rear, respectively. However, while the 250 Adventure comes with RF Mogrip tyres, the alloys on the larger 390 Adventure are wrapped in Continental rubber.
Both motorcycles also offer the same 14.5-litre fuel tank capacity. The two motorcycles even weigh the same, although the KTM 390 Adventure is just 2 kilograms heavier than its smaller sibling.
Pricing
These are probably the most important numbers when considering either of the two motorcycles. The KTM 250 Adventure comes with a price tag of Rs 2.48 lakh, while the KTM 390 Adventure is priced at Rs 3.04 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Verdict!
While both adventure motorcycles have a lot to offer and the additional price of the 390 Adventure does offer a few more features. We feel that the KTM 250 Adventure comes across as a more value-for-money offering off the two siblings.
