Kawasaki Z900 Becomes Brand’s Best-Selling Motorcycle In India

The Kawasaki Z900 has just become the brand's best-selling motorcycle in the country. The company put a stop to production of the Ninja 300 during December last year, resulting in the Z900 taking top spot.

Kawasaki made a fantastic decision to assemble the Ninja 300 locally, and this resulted in an increased demand for the motorcycle. The company choose not to upgrade the Ninja 300, and the stock that is currently available are BS4 compliant motorcycles.

Kawasaki's Z900 took the ‘best-selling' position with 71 sold against 39 units during the same month last year - an impressive 82 per cent growth. Kawasaki also registered 20 units of the Z650, 18 units of Ninja 650, 12 units of Vulcan S, and 13 units of ZX-10RR for sales figures.

The Ninja 300, the ZX-6R, the Versys 300X, the Versys 1000, and the Ninja H2 recorded one unit each in sales, while the Ninja 1000 posted 35 units. A major reason for the Z900 doing well is that the BS4 models are heavily discounted and sell for Rs. 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi)

The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 features H2 inspired LED headlights, a tweaked tail end, and other cosmetic updates. The biggest additions to the motorcycle are multiple riding modes, traction control, and engine power adjustability.

The motorcycle arrives with four riding modes - Road, Rain, Sport, and Rider. Each mode offers a different power map and ABS setting. The Rider mode allows for a rider to set up the motorcycle according to their preference. Riding modes can be switched on the move.

The new traction control settings arrive with three modes - one, which is fantastic for dry roads and sports riding; two, which is offers a sporty ride and better stability; and three, which is best suited to wet weather conditions.

Power selection is available in two modes - Full, that offers the entire range of 123 horses at disposal; and Low, that offers roughly 67 brake horse power to the throttle (best suited for wet weather conditions).

At the heart of the machine is a 948cc DOHC, 16 valve, inline four-cylinder engine that produce 123 brake horsepower and 98.6Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Suspension is handled by a set of 41mm upside down forks at the front, and mono-shock at the rear. Both are rebound damping and spring preload adjustable. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm disc at the front and a 250mm disc at the rear. While Kawasaki offers ABS as standard, the motorcycle misses out on cornering ABS.
