The Jawa & the Jawa Forty-Two BS6 motorcycles specification have been revealed by the company. Both motorcycles become slightly heavier with a drop in power and torque figures as compared to their BS4 counterparts.

The company has launched the BS6 motorcycles earlier this year and was expected to be available in April. However, the availability and deliveries of these motorcycles were delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting nation-wide lockdown announced in the country.

Jawahas released the specification of the BS6 motorcycles revealing the changes made to the new motorcycles. Both motorcycles now weigh 172kg each, that is 2 kilograms more than the BS4 models. In addition to the slight weight gain, the updated engine on the motorcycle also has a negligible drop in power and torque figures.

The Jawa & the Jawa Forty-Two BS6 motorcycle are powered by the same 293cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It now produces a maximum power of 26.2bhp and a peak torque of 27.05Nm — a decrease of 0.8bhp and 0.95Nm of torque from the BS4 model. The engine continued to come mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The performance of the motorcycle is not expected to affect much considering the weight gain and the updated power figures. The exact reason for weight gain has not been revealed by the company, although we expect it to be because of the reworked engine.

The BS6 motorcycles were launched in March with a significant increase in their pricing as well. The company is offering the Jawa and the Jawa Forty-Two in two variants: a single-channel ABS and dual-channel ABS.

The standard Jawa BS6 model with a single-channel ABS retails at a starting price of Rs 1.73 lakh which is Rs 9,000 more expensive than the previous model. While the dual-channel ABS variant is priced at Rs 1.83 lakh and becomes Rs 10,000 dearer than its BS4 counterpart.

Similarly, the Jawa Forty-Two BS6 single-channel ABS variant is priced at Rs 1.60 lakh, which is Rs 5,000 more expensive; while the dual-channel ABS variant costs Rs 1.64 lakh and is Rs 10,000 more than the BS4 model. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).

Jawa BS6 motorcycles have slightly heavier with negligible difference in power output. It is not expected to affect the performance of the motorcycles as compared to their BS4 models. However, the motorcycle is still 23 kilos lighter and produces around 8bhp more power as compared to its primary rival in the Indian market, the Royal Enfield Classic 350.
