Ducati Multistrada V4 Unveiled Globally: Italian Adventurer-Tourer With Ground-Breaking Tech
Ducati has globally unveiled the much-awaited Multistrada V4 adventure-touring motorcycle. The Multistrada V4 is now the brand's flagship adventure touring motorcycle and is available in three variants: Standard, V4S and the V4 S Sport.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 is powered by an all-new engine that is based on the one powering the Panigale V4 motorcycle in the brand's portfolio. However, the company has made some changes to the engine to suit the characteristics of an ADV-tourer — here is a detailed explanation.
Speaking about the engine itself, the liquid-cooled 1158cc V4 Granturismo engine produces a maximum of 170bhp at 10,500 rpm and a peak torque of 125Nm at 8,750rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch and the (DQS) Ducati Quick Shift bi-direction quick shifter technology.
The Multistrada V4 carries forward the brand's distinctive adventure-tourer design. However, the V4 looks aggressive and sleek giving it an appealing stance, especially from the front. The motorcycle features twin-pod headlamps set up along with a beak and air-inlets. The headlamps also feature integrated LED DRLs.
Other design features include a tall adjustable windscreen, knuckle guards, frame protectors, GPS mounts above the instrument cluster along with 12V charging socket, LED tail lamps, integrated rear luggage rack, up-swept exhaust, backlight switchgear, spilt-seats, and more.
The motorcycle features a 22-litre fuel tank to help with long-distance travelling. The V4 S Sport varaint of the adventure-tourer features Carbon fibre front mudguard along with an Akrapovic end-can muffler as well.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 is also an important and benchmark motorcycle in the adventure-touring segment because of its radar technology. It is the world's first motorcycle to feature radar technology at the front and rear of the motorcycle, that enables blindspot detection and radar-guided cruise control.
The motorcycle uses an aluminium monocoque frame with the double-sided aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties on the Multistrada V4 are handled via a 50mm fully-adjustable USD fork and a mono-shock suspension setup with (DSS) Ducati Skyhook Suspension technology. The rider seat height is adjustable between 840mm and 860mm.
The Multistrada V4 tips the scale at 215 kgs dry and features long suspension travel of 170mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. The motorcycle sits 220mm above the ground with an adjustable rider seat height between 840mm and 860mm. The wheelbase of the motorcycle measures at 1,567mm.
Braking on the motorcycle is done via 320mm dual-semi-floating discs along with radially mounted Brembo monobloc four-piston callipers and a radial master cylinder at the front. And at the rear, a 265mm disc along with Brembo tw0-piston floating calliper. The motorcycle uses 19-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres of section 120/70 and 170/60 at the front and rear, respectively.
The Multistrada V4 standard variant features a 5-inch TFT display, while the other two trims use a larger 6.5-inch displays. The motorcycle comes loaded with a host of electronic rider aids and various riding modes, all of which can be controlled using the switchgear and the instrument console.
The motorcycle uses a ride-by-wire system to enable various riding modes such as Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Other electronic rider aids include (DTC) Ducati Traction Control, (DWC) Ducati Wheelie Control, Cornering ABS from Bosch, and (VHC) Vehicle Hold Control.
Ducati is yet to confirm plans for the launch of Multistrada V4 flagship adventure-touring motorcycle in the Indian market. However, we expect the company to bring the ADV-tourer to India shores, due to the rising demand for high-end performance motorcycle in the country.
