Ducati Commences Production Of The Superleggera V4
Ducati has started the production of the Superleggera V4 and the first motorcycle has come off the Borgo Panigale plant in Italy. This is the #001 out of 500 units scheduled in a limited and numbered series. The progressive numbering of the motorcycles (XXX/500), coinciding with the chassis number, is shown on the steering head, and the ignition key.
Now lets us talk a little about the motorcycle, to start with, this is the only motorcycle in the world that is approved for road use with the frame, sub-frame, fairing, swingarm, and wheels are made out of carbon fibre. This has resulted in a dry weight of around 152kg, making it 40kg lighter than the Panigale V4R. The Superleggera V4 gets additional winglets apart from the bi-plane wings that have been derived from Ducati's MotoGP machine that provides 50kg downforce at 270km.
Mechanically, the Superleggera V4 uses the Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine that produces 224bhp of power and 115Nm of peak torque. The addition of the Akrapovic full-system exhaust bumps the power up to 234bhp, which is 20bhp more than what the V4 R produces. The racing kit also includes a carbon fiber open clutch cover and swingarm cover, headlamp replacement kit, tail tidy kit, side stand removal kit, billet aluminum mirror replacement caps, racing fuel cap, brake lever protectors, motorcycle cover as well as front and rear stand and a battery charger.
To make this even more interesting, Ducati is offering each Superleggera V4 customer a chance to ride the WSBK-spec Panigale V4R at Mugello. Furthermore, the first 30 owners will get a chance to also ride Ducati's MotoGP machine at the circuit. The motorcycle will hit the international market soon and we also expect the company to introduce the Superleggera soon in the Indian market but in limited numbers.
Thoughts About The Ducati Superleggera V4
This is the most advanced production motorcycle to hit the roads to date. We are hoping that Ducati gets the Superleggera soon to the Indian market and once launched the motorcycle is expected to carry an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 80 lakh.
