Bike Sales Report For March 2020: Bajaj Auto Registers A Massive 55% Decline In Domestic Sales

Bajaj Auto has announced a 55% decline in domestic two-wheeler sales in the Indian market during the month of March 2020. The company announced that they registered sales of just 98,412 units in the previous month, compared to over 2.20 lakh units of sales in March 2019.

In the export market, Bajaj is said to have registered 1,12,564 units of sales in March 2020. This is a 9% positive growth compared to the export sales in March 2019 when the company recorded 1,03,325 units of sales.

Taking the total count of domestic and export two-wheeler sales, Bajaj managed to sell 2,10,976 units in the month of March 2020. This adds up to a sales decline of 35% compared to March 2019 when Bajaj registered 3,23,538 units of total sales.

In terms of overall sales in the financial year, Bajaj Auto registered a 7% decline in two-wheeler sales. The company recorded a drop from 42,36,873 units in FY 2018-19 to 39,47,568 units in FY 2019-20.

Out of this, the domestic two-wheeler sales accounted for 20,78,348 units. The remaining 18,69,220 units of sales came from export markets. Between the two financial years, Bajaj Auto's domestic sales fell by 18% while export sales witnessed a positive 10% growth.

Bajaj is working with the government to provide support during the current coronavirus pandemic in the country. The company recently also extended the free service and warranty period for both two and three-wheeler products.

The company stated that the free service and warranty period for all two-wheelers expiring between 20th March and 30th April will be extended till 31st May. While those of three-wheelers and commercial vehicles will be extended by 30h June.

Also with the BS6 emission norms now implemented in the country, Bajaj has been on a spree updating its entire product line up. Bajaj has already updated the entire Pulsar range, including the 150, 180F, NS160, NS200, 220F and the RS200. Other models such as the Avenger and the Dominar have also been updated to comply with the BS6 norms as well.

Bajaj has been severely affected by the current COVID-19 situation in the country. However, with all the models now updated to comply with the BS6 emission norms, Bajaj will be hoping to improve once the current situation is contained and some sort of normalcy is restored.
