Aprilia SXR Scooters India Launch Delayed: Pushed To September Due To COVID-19 Outbreak
Aprilia SXR scooters launch in Indian has been delayed. The company has pushed the launch of the upcoming maxi-scooters to September this year. The decision has been made to postpone the launch due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
According to IAB, the maxi-scooters are expected to be launched in India around September this year. The upcoming Aprilia SXR range of maxi-scooters includes two models the SXR 125 and the SXR 160.
The company showcased both the upcoming maxi-scooters at the 2020 AutoExpo, ahead of its launch. However, the on-going Coronavirus crisis has affected most business operations, which could have resulted in the launch getting delayed for the Aprilia SXR scooter range.
The Aprilia SXR 125 and the SXR 160 feature a fresh and modern design. The scooters feature the brand's signature setup of a triple headlamp design with integrated LED DRLs. It also features LED tail lights, alloys wheels, massive front apron and large tinted visor, adding to the maxi-scooter design features.
It also features a fully digital instrument cluster, large seats for the rider and the pillion, split glovebox on the apron with a USB charger, and large under-seat storage space with a search lamp. The maxi-scooter looks are further accentuated by the addition of a muscular-looking exhaust.
The Aprilia SXR 125 is expected to be powered by the same 125cc unit that is powering the Aprilia SR 125 BS6 scooter from the company's line-up. The 125cc single-cylinder fuel-injected unit produces a maximum power of 9.5bhp at 7,250rpm and peak torque of 9.9Nm at 6,250rpm.
Likewise, the powerful Aprilia SXR 160 would feature the 160cc unit borrowed from the Aprilia SR 160 BS6 scooter sold in India. The 160cc single-cylinder fuel-injected unit produces a maximum power of 10.8bhp at 7,600rpm and peak torque of 11.6Nm at 6,000rpm.
Apart from that, both scooter will feature telescopic forks at the front and twin-shock absorber setup at the rear. Braking duties are likely to be handled by a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear supported by a single-channel ABS.
Once launched The Aprilia SXR 125 and SXR 160 will primarily rival the Suzuki Burgman in the India market. The upcoming scooters will be premium products from the brand, and will be targeted towards a niche audience. As a result, they are expected to be priced on the higher side with bookings for both scooters are expected to start from August.
