The Yezdi line up of motorcycles will most likely share a lot of components with Jawa motorcycles. We could possible see the same engine that is on the Jawa but it could be tuned to be Yezdi specific. Sharing parts and components means that production costs will be low and the motorcycles will be launched at very competitive prices.

General Trivia

Yezdi's most popular motorcycle was the Roadking. It was manufactured by Ideal Jawa Ltd., a Mysore based motorcycle manufacturer, between 1978 and 1996. The Roadking was based on the CZ 250 (type 908.5) motocross ridden by Jaroslav Falta, and made it to second place at the 1974 Motocross World Championships.

The Oil King model was launched during the 70s and the motorcycle featured an oil pump to mix 2T oil with petrol. The model was discontinued because of constant issues with the fuel pump. The engine casing from the Oil King models found their way to the Roadking models and that is why all Roadking models feature a protrusion even though they do not feature an oil pump.

In 1993 the company started replacing (CBI) Contact Breaker Ignition units with CDI Electronic Ignition units. The motorcycle also featured new livery. These changes helped improve fuel efficiency by 30 per cent but poor sales eventually resulted in closure of operations by 1996.

Yezdi unveiled the Monarch model at the Auto Expo 1996. This model featured twin frames and fuel tanks from the 350 models, and engines from the Roadking models. This was also the first model to feature 18-inch rims as compared to the standard 16-inch rims. Unfortunately for Yezdi, sales were very limited and the model was discontinued.

Thoughts About Yezdi Making A Possible Comeback

This is legendary news! Some of us have owned a Yezdi for years and we're ga-ga over the possibility of the brand making a comeback to the country. We guess we have Mahindra to thank for this. We just hope that the first motorcycle that returns is the Roadking, and also that it retains the original 16-litre tank and the 16-inch rims!
