Yamaha To Introduce BS-VI Motorcycles & Scooters In India By End-2019
Yamaha Motors India has announced the introduction of BS-VI motorcycles and scooters in the Indian market by November 2019. The company recently sent out a statement confirming the arrival of BS-VI compliant models, well ahead of the emissions deadline of April 2020.
According to the statement by Yamaha, the company will introduce BS-VI motorcycles in India by November 2019 while BS-VI versions of the scooters will go on sale from January 2020.
The statement further went on to say that the hike in the production cost of the BS-VI variants of the Yamaha motorcycles and scooters will also affect the final cost of the products in the market. This hike in prices will vary between 12 - 15 per cent depending on the model and variant.
In a bid to offset the increase in prices, Yamaha will offer a ‘side stand switch' as standard on select variants. This additional safety feature will prevent the engine to start until the side stand is withdrawn entirely. However, Yamaha is yet to announce which of the models will be the first to receive the updated BS-VI spec engines.
Yamaha Motors India has had an eventful first half in 2019, launching a number of products in the market. It started off with the introduction of the new FZS V3.0 and the MT-15, along with the ABS versions of their popular R15 V3.0, FZ25 and Fazer 25 in the market. The company also recently introduced the ‘Monster Edition' variants of the R15, FZ25 and the Ray-Z scooter.
Apart from Yamaha, Hero MotoCorp has already launched the country's first BS-VI compliant two-wheeler in the form of the Splendor iSmart commuter motorcycle. Honda has also showcased the BS-VI version of the Activa 125, which is expected to go on sale in the Indian market sometime by the end of this year as well.
Thoughts On Yamaha Introducing BS-VI Compliant Motorcycles By November
Yamaha is on a roll with multiple launches in 2019. This will soon be followed up with the introduction of the BS-VI version of most of the models on sale in the Indian market. The first BS-VI products to go on sale from the Japanese brand will be their motorcycles in the Indian market.
