Royal Enfield Recall In India — Over 7000 Bullet & Electra Recalled Over Faulty Brakes

Chennai based two wheeler manufacturing giant, Royal Enfield announced a recall of over 7,000 motorcycles manufactured between 20 March 2019 and 30 April 2019. The recall has been asked for because the motorcycles manufactured during that period were installed with faulty braking systems.

Bullet

According to livemint, the Bullet and the Bullet Electra are the models that have been recalled and Royal Enfield has opted for a 'service intervention' to replace the faulty brake caliper bolts. This is being done as a voluntary service action. Brake caliper bolts are an essential component o braking systems. They secure the brake calipers and the hose.

In a statement issued, the company said, "This is because service investigations revealed that the torque maintained on brake caliper bolts, as supplied by the vendor, on a few of these motorcycles were not as per stringent Royal Enfield quality standards."

Bullt

Royal Enfield recalled the Himalayan 410 back in 2016. Only the Himalayan recall was for the overtly coarse engine and high tappet noises. They replaced the faulty rockers with new ones.

The Royal Enfield Bullet is the base model that is available and it belongs to the 350cc family. The motorcycle features a 346cc single cylinder, air cooled engine that produces 19.8bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

RE

The Royal Enfield Bullet Electra feature the same engine and transmission that is found on the Bullet 350.

Prices for the motorcycles range between Rs 1.17 lakh and Rs 1.34 lakh, ex-showroom (India).

Thoughts About The Recall By Royal Enfield

We think this is just one of the many problems on the Royal Enfield fleet that the company is addressing. Most folks who own Enfields feel that the company does not deliver quality products and the say the expenses to maintain one of these motorcycles is more than than the cost of the bike itself.

We think Royal Enfield needs to deliver high quality motorcycles in the country before manufacturing high quality motorcycles for export. European and Japanese manufacturers make the best of their production motorcycles available in their 'home' countries before venturing out in to exports.

Hopefully Royal Enfield is listening and paying attention, however we are not very hopeful.
