Royal Enfield 650-Twins Waiting Period Crosses 5 Months — Production To Be Increased
Royal Enfield launched their 650-twins (Continental GT 650 & Interceptor 650) in the Indian market in November 2018. The two motorcycles have been gaining increasing demand in both the Indian and global markets.
Now, both 650cc motorcycle offerings demand a waiting period of four to six months. According to Royal Enfield there is more demand for the Interceptor 650 than the Continental GT 650, however, both offerings still come with the same waiting period.
To reduce the waiting period of the Royal Enfield 650-twins, the Chennai-based brand is said to be ramping up its production numbers. Currently, Royal Enfield manufactures around 2,500 units of the motorcycles per month, this is said to soon increase to around 4,000 to 5,000 units.
This will help Royal Enfield bring down the waiting period for both motorcycles in the Indian market, significantly. The two Royal Enfield 650cc motorcycle offerings are also exported to countries such as US, US, Thailand and Australia.
Royal Enfield is also planning to set up a manufacturing plant in Thailand, to further cater to the increasing demand in the international market. The plant in Thailand will get CKD units of the two motorcycles and is scheduled to start assembly later this year.
Ever since its launch in the Indian market, both the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 has been witnessing a steady rise in demand. In its first full month of sales in December 2018, the company recorded sales of 629 units while January 2019 saw this number rise to 1,069 units. February 2019 recorded a sales of 1,445 units, which outsells any other motorcycle in the middleweight segment in the Indian market.
Both the Royal Enfield Interceptor and Continental GT 650 are powered by the same 648cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine. It produces 47bhp and 52Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Thoughts On The Royal Enfield 650-Twins Waiting Period
The Royal Enfield 650-Twins are the most affordable offerings in the Indian middleweight motorcycle segment. The two motorcycles: Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are priced at Rs 2.50 lakh and 2.65 lakh, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom (Delhi). The two motorcycles rival the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and Street Rod.
