Increase Power Values On Your Royal Enfield 650 — The King Of Aftermarket ECUs Is Here

PowerTRONIC has just launched a new Plug and Play ECU unit for the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. This piggyback ECU unit will improve performance values of the motorcycles by enhancing the total power output of the machines.

The price of this plug and play ECU unit manufactured by PowerTRONIC is Rs 22,000 and can be bought at the company's official website. Also on offer is for an additional Rs 1,300 is a handlebar map switch which can be used to switch between different maps while on the go.

PowerTRONIC claims that the piggyback ECU increases the power and torque output of the Royal Enfield 650 twins by between 3bhp and 5bhp over stock figures of 47bhp. The 648 cc engine featured on the motorcycles indicated an increase of between 3bhp and 5bhp over a dyno test, when equipped with the ECU. The company says that peak torque figures increased by 3Nm as well.

The stock 648 cc parallel-twin engine produces 47bhp of power @ 7,250rpm and 52Nm of torque @ 5,250rpm. PowerTRONIC claims that their ECU for the 650 Twins delivers better throttle response and enhanced engine responses at lower rev bands. The ECU controls both fuel and ignition to deliver optimal performance and throttle response throughout the rev range.

The piggyback ECU allows for the engine to rev till 12,000rpm, which can be enhanced to 15,000rpm depending on the map set-up. The ECU can be installed easily within 40 minutes without the need for modifications. The ECU unit comes with dual pre-installed maps, and can maps can be customized as well. The maps can be can also be downloaded from the company's website.

The wiring harness for the PowerTRONIC ECU is heat and water-resistant, and carries a 1-year unlimited replacement warranty, which is a big assurance for the buyers. PowerTRONIC also offers a free replacement within 15 days if the buyer is not satisfied with the results.

It may be noted that this aftermarket performance part is not an official Royal Enfield accessory so it is advisable to install the PowerTRONIC ECU when the motorcycle is void of it's warranty phase. Having said that, Rs 22,000 for a performance upgrade is relatively cheap, and the ECU will definitely enhance riding experience.

Outside of the PowerTRONIC ECU, one has another option to upgrade power values on the 650 Twins. About Rs 50,000 will give you an S&S Big Bore Engine Kit that ups the 650 to an 865cc unit. However, the S&S aftermarket is available specifically for track use.

Aftermarket ECUs have always been available for many performance motorcycles. However, most folk do not understand that upgrading performance figures involve three things - the ECU, the air filter, and the exhaust system. Obviously, yes? One cannot work without the other. So, if you are thinking of installing the PowerTRONIC ECU (or any other ECU), you need to upgrade the exhaust system, and the air filter in order to bring out the best of the beast.
