Piaggio Updates Vespa, Aprilia Lineups With ABS And CBS
Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Piaggio has updated its lineup of Vespa and Aprilia scooters in India with anti-lock brake system (ABS) or combined braking systems (CBS) depending on the displacement. As part of the introductory offer on the new ABS-equipped Vespa and Aprilia lineups, Piaggio is offering benefits worth Rs 6,000 if customers use Paytm to get the now safer scooters.
Scooters from the lineups of both Vespa and Aprilia that feature engines displacing 150cc have been upgraded with anti lock brake systems that Piaggio claims helps ensure braking without slippage providing riders with greater control of their vehicles when the brakes are applied, especially in emergency situations.
Scooters from Aprilia and Vespa that feature Piaggio's 125cc engine, on the other hand, have been equipped with the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer's combined braking systems. The combined braking system activates both the front and rear brakes when the brakes are applied which Piaggio claims provides proportional brake distribution between the front and rear wheels thereby increasing the stability of the vehicle.
Speaking about the new safety upgrades to the lineups of the company's two scooter marques, Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio India said, "As a global brand, we are committed to the safety of our customers and delighted to comply with the changing safety norms from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This move will improve the overall safety and riding standards of the two-wheeler industry. For us, our product portfolio was already ABS compliant last year, but we are launching them across the country now to fit the general demand."
Ashish Yakhmi, Head of Two-wheeler business added, "Our brands, Vespa & Aprilia have always stood for technological advancements, aligning our strategy of pursuing global innovations. Road safety is an important criteria for us hence, we are happy to offer India's first scooter with ABS & CBS technology for the best riding experience & performance. This makes our products not only stylish and sporty but also equipped with the latest safety system to provide unique riding experiences."
Earlier reports had suggested that Piaggio would update the Vespa lineup with a new entry-level ZX125 model. However, there is currently no news about the new member of the Vespa family.
