Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Modified: Rajputana Customs Have Outdone Themselves!
Jaipur-based Rajputana Customs is a well known name in the custom motorcycles world. Led by Vijay Singh, the chop shop has built motorcycles for celebrity clients and motorcycle manufacturers. Royal Enfield is the latest 'manufacturer client' for the custom builders and the work they've done with the Continental GT 650 is just spectacular.
Harley-Davidson has tasked Rajputana Customs to build the world's first custom Street 750 earlier, but Vijay's dream was Royal Enfield. Vijay said, "When Royal Enfield commissioned us, it was a matter of great pride-and a sense of ‘acceptance at last'."
"This is the first time we've had a chance to build for an Indian manufacturer. And we were given the new GT 650, which hadn't been released to the public at that point," he added.
The motorcycles Rajputana Customs build are a class apart, and they have delivered with this GT 650, nicknamed 'Vigilante'. The stock Continental GT 650 is a dream to ride. The motorcycle handles very well, the engine is peppy, and the motorcycle is great for weekend rides.
Eighty per cent of the torque kicks in before the 2500rpm mark, and one does not have to rev the motor too much to enjoy it. Vijay and his crew however, decided to bump up the fun factor. They said, "Given the frame and geometry of the stock bike we thought it apt to build acafe racer. So we rebuilt the rear subframe and added a single-sided trellis swingarm."
Rajputana customs have also reduced the trail in the front to improve handling, and machined the triples in order to mount Showa forks from a Ducati 848 EVO. "It's to give the bike an aggressive stance, more agility and better front end feel," said Vijay.
The rear suspension has been upgraded with an Ohlins TTX GP shock. Other modifications include 17-inch Marchesini rims, and Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks. Rajputana Customs have swapped the stock Bybre brakes for Brembo brakes, including the radial master cylinders.
The mechanics of the motorcycle remains the same but the modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 features K&N pod filters at the intake, and a custom MotoGP style exhaust system with brass tips to help the motor breathe and sound better.
The new fairing on the modified Continental GT 650 has been rolled from mild steel, and the motorcycle also features asymmetric side panels that partly encase the engine. The motorcycle also features a pop-up fuel cap on the tank, a minimalist leather seat mounted on a new sub-frame, new LED lighting, and a few discreet brass details.
Royal Enfield was thrilled with the result, and Rajputana Customs took the bike to the Buddh International Circuit to test it out.
Vijay said, "We were able to put the bike through its paces on a state of the art track. The slicks, coupled with a mid-range SBK suspension setup, were unbelievably planted-with tons of grip on offer when on the brakes, entering a corner, or barreling out on the gas."
"It was insanely good fun. Being a partly ‘aesthetic' build, it took some getting used to, but we managed to scrape the heat wrap off the exhaust when leaning her into the corners. It would be ridiculously good if we could get 650 owners to a track with decent slicks and let them rip!," he added.
The stock Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 features a 648cc parallel twin engine that produces 47bhp of power and 52Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The motorcycle is available in five different colours: Black Magic, Ice Queen, Ventura Blue, Mister Clean, and Dr Mayhem.
The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is priced between Rs 2.65 lakh and Rs 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About The Modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
What a beauty! Rajputana Customs have outdone themselves. The custom job is next level and we're sure Royal Enfield must be really thrilled with this custom job. In fact, the company has been showcasing custom work done on the 650 twins wherever and whenever they have the chance. We hope we get a chance to see this motorcycle in the flesh! In the mean time, we're calling Vijay to congratulate him for the masterpiece he and his team have built!
