2020 Honda Africa Twin: Specs Details Price & Expected Launch
Honda took the adventure touring by storm when they launched the Africa Twin in 2016. The company is now ready to launch the 2020 Africa Twin. The motorcycle is known for the four victories at the Paris-Dakar Rally, and is a big fan favourite.
The all new 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin features a new, bigger engine, and more connectivity features, and the 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports variant features a revised faring, a lighter frame, and a massive 25-litre fuel tank.
The new models feature a 1084cc liquid-cooled, uni-cam four-stroke parallel-twin engine that produces 98bhp of power and 105Nm of torque. The motorcycles have lighter aluminium cylinder sleeves, and redesigned engine casings.
The engine comes mated to six-speed manual or an automatic dual-clutch transmission. Upgrades also include a new aluminium detachable sub-frame, and a lighter and stronger swingarm.
The all new Honda Africa Twin feature a 43mm throttle body and a smoother air intake profile. The ECU has also seen upgrades in terms of revamped injector angles. Honda has also worked on the exhaust note that now growls more than the older ones.
The all new Honda Africa Twin features a 21-inch rim at the front, and an 18-inch rim at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 310mm dual-wave floating hydraulic disc at the front and a 256mm hydraulic disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as a standard.
Honda has upped the suspension set up and the all new Africa Twin features Showa 45mm cartridge-type inverted forks at the front, and a Pro-Link mono-shock at the rear. The rear suspension also features a Showa gas-charged damper.
The 2020 Honda Africa Twin features an all-new 6.5-inch TFT display for an instrument cluster. There are four riding modes to choose from - Tour, Urban, Gravel, and Off-Road. The Honda Selectable Torque Control (traction control system) features a new six-axis IMU.
The motorcycle also features four engine mode levels, three electronic engine braking levels, and a seven-way traction control system. The motorcycles also feature cruise control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, rear-lift control, DCT cornering detection, and cornering lights.
The 2020 Honda Africa Twin is currently available in foreign markets in two variants - the CRF1100L, and the CRF1100L Adventure Sport. The motorcycles are priced between USD 14,000 and USD 17,200, which roughly translates to between Rs 10.20 lakh and Rs. 12.20 lakh (plus taxes).
Honda currently retails the 2019 Africa Twin for Rs 13.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and expectations are that the 2020 models will make an appearance at the 2020 Auto Expo before being launched in India.
