KTM & Bajaj Developing Brand New 500cc Twin-Cylinder Bike For India

KTM is working with its Indian partner Bajaj to develop a brand new motorcycle that will be powered by a 500cc twin-cylinder engine. This was revealed to Speedweek by the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer's CEO Stefan Pierer when he sat down for an interview with the German magazine.

The two new bikes will sit between the 390 and 790 lineup of models in KTM's lineup and are expected to provide quite a step up in terms of power compared to the current top-of-the-line 390 Duke which kicks out 42.9bhp at 9,000rpm and 37Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.

However, when the new 500cc motorcycle does arrive in India, it will not be the most expensive or powerful offering from KTM in India. There are reports that KTM will be bringing its 790 Duke naked twin-cylinder motorcycle to India in the very near future.

The KTM 790 Duke is powered by a liquid cooled 799cc twin-cylinder engine that sends a tyre scorching 103.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 86Nm of torque at 8,000rpm to the rear wheelKTM is expected to launch the new 790 Duke in India this very month and it will go up against the likes of the Triumph Tiger in the Indian motorcycle market.

The power figurs of the new 500cc twin-cylinder motorcycle is expected to hover between those of the 390 and 790 Duke models when it does arrive in India and as per KTM boss Stefan Pierer will take on various Japanese bikes in the 500cc motorcycle segment in India.

Not much is known about what bikes the new engine will spawn other than the expected new naked motorcycle. A fared RC version is also expected to follow in its naked siblings footsteps and Bajaj is also expected to make use of the new engine.

Whether this will be in the form of a larger Dominar or perbhaps even the rumpured top-of-the line Pulsar is anyhone's guess as the new engine does seem to be quite a while away.

Till then KTM's new 790 Duke  should keep Indian petrolheads happy with its scalpel like handling and its bonkers engine. Also Husqvarna is also expected to debut in India later this year.
